Forty years ago (give or take 5) mainly in the rural areas, ranchers and farmers used to carry long guns openly in a gun rack in their pickup trucks. They had a need for this. I assume the law allowing open carry of long guns was made to accommodate the ranchers and farmers.texanjoker wrote:jmra wrote:Good question. I believe they want what some call constitutional carry. Anyone carrying anyway they want without government interference. I assume they are ok with those prohibited from purchasing a firearm also being prohibited from carrying but not absolutely positive about that.HoosierTexan wrote:What exactly is the Open Carry movement trying to accomplish?
The ability for us to open carry our pistols, or more open carry rights in general?
It is ironic that here in TEXAS you can open carry an AK or AR but not a Glock. IMO that makes no sense.
At that time you could not carry a handgun openly or concealed except on your property. The law was changed to allow the carrying of handguns but the laws on long guns remained the same.
I do not know this to be fact and I am not a lawyer. I just remember a lot of pickups with two or three long guns almost everywhere.
I will use my 1st amendment right to criticize the OC group. Their tactics could backfire and we could lose some rights it took years to get, whereas patients rather than confrontation might be warranted for now.
