On another forum, I just read that Massachusetts will not accept a passport as proof of citizenship when applying for a license to carry. Wait... what?

I don't have a passport, but if I did, I'd be careful about using it as ID. Where I work, contractors have to leave an ID at the gate when they pick up their contractor badges. One of them lost her DL, so she's been leaving her passport until she can get a replacement. I didn't think anything about it, until the guy working with me picked it up, opened it, and said, "Wow, I wonder why she was going to the Philippines?"

A passport, if it's been used, can reveal a lot of stuff you might rather not be public knowledge.

Re: TSA Airport Security - CHL saved me

I've never figured out why the government think a piece of plastic no longer identifies you after some arbitrary date.

I accidentally let my DL expire one time, which I found out when I went to pick up a gun from the dealer. It didn't matter if everything on the license was correct, or that it was only expired by two months, they had to have a current, valid DL or state ID card. :banghead:

Luckily that was a slow day at the DPS office, so I was back within 30 minutes. Same piece of plastic, but now I had a little printed bit of paper that said I was a legal driver again.
