Re: *UPDATED 1911 catastrophic failure PIC (gunsmith dfw?)
you do NOT have a bull barrel, bull barrel 1911's have no barrel bushing. like was said earlier, that is an odd part to fail, the is obviously a fitment issue going on. can't help on a local gunsmith for you, but do find a reputable one to go over the pistol to make sure it is in proper working order.

Re: Caliber Wars
well, shot placement IS more important than caliber. BUT!!! In a high stress situation, the chances of a well placed shot is low. so therefore, one needs a little bigger bullet to make up for less than desirable shot placement.

it would be just as dangerous as a brand new glock with a crappy holster.,tacticool wrote:If the 1911 was as worn out as that holster......glbedd53 wrote:1911

Re: Worn Leather Hoslter Causes "Accidental" Discharge
exactly. people press for guns with no secure safety and what do you expect. I use a 1911 because it has multiple safety mechanisms for this very reason. even my old little makarov had a secure safety.

Re: I want a trp but i'm skeptical.
trp's are suppose to be a fine pistol. as with any firearm, there is the possibility of getting a problem child. but if you want one that bad, go for it. I personally spend my hard earned money on dan wessons, but I would not throw rocks at a TRP.

Re: Lightweight 1911s
i had an aluminum kimber. only use mags with a skirted follower for one. non-skirted will nose dive on the last round and ding the frame. nothing detrimental to operation, just looks bad. as far as wear goes, the kimber bothered me because it wasn't a ramped barrel. and the feed ramp showed the wear...

Re: SLAM FIRE?
I have heard a few tales of gen 4 glocks having some issues with slam firing. in the 1911 world, we refer to this as hammer follow and is a real possibility.
