To this day everyone believes that Martha Stewart was convicted of insider trading. She was never charged with insider trading.treadlightly wrote:Fun fact of the day - James Comey, who now-famously recommends no charges against noble Hillary, once labored to put Martha Stewart in the Big House. He was a US Attorney at the time and served as lead prosecutor in that case.
Martha Stewart, given the prosecutor's attention Comey granted her and his lackluster interest in chasing Hillary, was more of a threat to the American way than HIllary's state secrets open to the world.
General Patraeus had a notebook in a desk drawer at home and had let his bed-buddy biographer read it.
Terribly stupid and it's right he lost rank, retirement, and paid $100,000 fine.
But it's hardly the same thing as offering state secrets to foreign intelligence.
On the other hand, I don't cross my wife. I know to respect radicalized homemakers with weaponized knick-knacks.
Maybe Comey does, too.
I think the obvious conflicts in his announcement are a plea for help against forces he's helpless against. My prediction, he will retire in the very near future.
And pray for his safety. We don't need another Vince Foster.
It was a pure witch hunt. A way to further his career .
Martha Stewart was charged with lying to a FBI agent. Had Martha asked to have her attorney present when the FBI agents showed up unannounced at her office, she would have not been charged with anything. As it was the charge of lying was preposterous. A jury was convinced by Comey beyond a reasonable doubt, that Martha Stewart lied about what she remembered.
How can you prove beyond a reasonable doubt about what some one remembered. In this case a phone call from months before.
So in this case Comey was willing to press an indictment where he had no evidence. Here he will not press a case where he admits he has all the evidence he needs.
Do you think Martha Stewart is unhappy she did not make more political contributions.
This is America today.
