Was I just not paying attention on Sunday to what he was saying then.
Was there an earlier post about pigs flying.

Woman who held up racist sign and shouted racist chants to rile up Quanell X's marchers was an Austin based left wing plant. She is outed in this story.
Apparently her photo was picked up by news media and published world wide as a pro Zimmerman supporter.

I've been stopped many times in the Villages, but never in River Oaks. I've had plenty of cruddy cars.Cedar Park Dad wrote:Old enough? Are you saying thats stopped? Seriously?
Am I the only one here old enough to remember when HPD had no problem with the private security in River Oaks impersonating HPD officers and doing traffic stops of anyone in a crappy car or dark skin who dared to drive through the place just to look at the pretty houses? It happened to me and to others I know, albeit ~30 years ago.
Reputations like that die hard. People will (arguably) rightfully remember the profiling done by River Oaks patrols for another generation or two.

Looks like the did walk in River Oaks (junior) but were required to stay on the sidewalks.
Boy horses really make a good crowd control devices.

The Pro Zimmerman group is starting at Lamar High School.
This article says many businesses will close early, some are not opening at all, some are removing goods from windows in case of looting.

A competing protest gathering at city hall in Houston this afternoon. This was in response to Al Sharpton's call for a nationwide protest today. Apparently he did not check with QX.
Channel 2's story apparently doesn't have a clue about tomorrow's more important protest march or common street names here. Hopefully protestors will show up at the right spot and walk in the correct direction or there could be confusion and splinter protest marches. Never good for TV coverage.

Re: Anyone live in River Oaks...
Ahh. Wiley Park is on the boundary of the Fourth Ward. This is the location of historic Freedman's Town, which is where newly freed slaves resided in Houston after the civil war.
This would be a fitting location for the start of the march.
In the last few years, those pesky Generation X or Y types have been moving in and building McTownhouses, which has changed the character of the area. If I remember now there was a lot of complaints that there should be a law against that happening, since it was spoiling the historic character of the area. Generation X or Y didn't want 150 year old, 400 sf houses and Freedmen didn't mind selling for big bucks either.
I'm sure the new owners of Freedman's town are real happy about all this too.

Re: Anyone live in River Oaks...
This says Wiley Park which is quite a ways from River Oaks. The're going to have a very long walk to get to River Oaks.
Most of the march will be in Montrose along West Gray. For those not familiar with Houston, Councilman Frank Mann was quoted that Montrose is where the "queers and odd wads" lived. Asked what an "odd wad" was. He said that in reloading shotgun shells occasionally there would be a wad that would not fit. That was an odd wad and it was thrown away. They do not make colorful politicians like that any more.

Re: Anyone live in River Oaks...
That would be all wrong. That would be River Oaks Junior. Those are the cheap houses, most under 2 million.Skiprr wrote:My understanding is that they intend to gather near River Oaks Shopping Center on West Gray, walk west where it turns into Inwood at S. Shepherd, continue west on Inwood to Kirby, turn south one block to Del Monte, then east on Del Monte and back to the start on West Gray either by turning north on S. Shepherd or continuing on to Peden St. and turning north at McDuffie.Dadtodabone wrote:Does anyone know what the planned route is for this march? Are they using River Oaks Blvd(which is 4 lanes and divided) or will they be marching up and down the residential streets(30' wide)?
A much better route would be to start at Lamar High School. (probably could park there legally and assemble there legally, if we are worried about that sort of thing) Then cross Westheimer and head down River Oaks Boulevard and turn around at River Oaks Country Club and back. Those are all 6 million dollar homes along River Oaks Boulevard.
Gosh if its at River Oaks Shopping Center. You could watch from the second floor of Barnes and Noble with a Starbucks.

Re: Anyone live in River Oaks...
Wow, somethings going to happen like that here in Houston. Wonder if it will be televised live.
The really crummy houses start at about a million in River Oaks and go all the way up to probably 30 million.
Most of the bigger houses are gated and are so far back from the street that a tossed rock would not reach the house. The streets are very shaded and tree lined. So it would be a nice place to hold a march in the middle of the summer.
Would you need a parade permit unless you stick to the sidewalks?
