I was thinking about this while I was getting ready for work this morning, and it occurred to me that the 1911's thumb safety would prevent the slide from cycling and therefore subsequent rounds from cooking off in the chamber. Having a bunch of bullets blow up the frame of your gun would still be a pretty bad day, though, and that's assuming there's no extra-ovenal damage.

The thumb safety would only prevent slide cycling if the gun had been left in the oven cocked and locked. Of course, I wouldn't put that past anyone who would put his gun in the oven in the first place.
