So my friend is all safe and sound back in France from Russia. He said his Russia friends would speak about Ukrainians in a derogatory manner, always needing something. So I got the impression that there was no love lost between the two peoples.

I would agree. Except at the end of maybe next week. Russia will have with deadly force taken, stolen and conquered a real sovereign country on its border at the cost of thousands of lives, many non combatant, and destroyed most of the country. (will we get to pay to rebuild Ukraine?)

I think we can agree that is what is happening. We can argue about whether the President is a nice guy or whether it is a dictatorship or a democracy or whether Putin gets to keep his black belt or whether the Ukraine is racist or Transphobic. But Russia is stealing a country by force.

The question will remain will they take Moldova next, Romania after that?

I feel almost everything ends up being about land in the end.

A more somber assessment of the current situation in Ukraine. The Russians are winning.

My understanding there is about 45% Russian vs 55% Ukraine population in this area that wants to be part of Russia or independent. I also understand the Russians came to this area to work the coal that was discovered.

I’m a little concerned Putin is off his rocker and is using a lot of extra tough rhetoric mentioning nukes. One can hope the Russian military would balk.

I hope he does not intend to destroy most of the civilized world by underestimating the US President.

If there was an exchange with Russia, would the US destroy China as well to prevent their taking over the world afterwards or would they be needed to rescue the few survivors?
