Re: ammo on sale

Thanks for the tip about the Federal 9mm at Wal-Mart. They had lots at $9.47, apparently with no limit. He sold me an unopened case of the stuff! No scanning DL or any of that nonsense either.

Re: Letter to Eyemasters regarding 30.06 sign

Just a thought... it may also be helpful to cite the demographic of the majority of TX CHL holders. The overwhelming majority is in the 45-60 age bracket. That's a lot of aging eyes that need corrective lenses.

I like Medina too. The other two are full of it and they both should be fired.

Re: Employer has weapons policy

I'm confused, or at least uneducated, about what gives an employer any legal right to search your automobile. The discussion implies that if this employer demands it, the employee is obliged to allow it. I don't think so. You are under no obligation to allow an employer to search your car. They are...

Re: Attempted Car-jack

Tough one. The guy either showed remarkable restraint and presence of mind under duress, or was just lucky the BG froze up. Either way, I suppose any landing you can walk away from is a good one. Glad he's okay.

Re: Military Discharge Status and Obtaining a CHL

I don't recall that mentioned in the eligibility requirements, as long as you were not convicted of a felony and are legally able to purchase a handgun in that you pass the NICS check.

Re: Lost My CHL...

Correct! You can carry normally from your house to your car. The gun does not have to be concealed during the carry and could actually be in you hand if you want. Whoa there... I don't think you're allowed open carry to your car. Even if you were, walking across your apartment parking lot with a vi...

Re: One of these for home defense?

Marlin 1894 .44 Mag with 16" barrel. Loaded with .44 Spl HP ammo. This reminds me of something I heard the other day. HP defensive bullets engineered to expand and penetrate well at handgun velocities may just blow apart and do weird (undesirable) things when accelerated to rifle speeds. The s...

I have a M&P 40c. There's a lot to like about it. Including the price, when compared to 1911s.

Re: Fiance doesn't think she needs a gun

she cried when she tried to shoot. That is actually not uncommon. I forewarn my students that a lot of women react this way when they get the adrenaline dump that may come from firing a gun for the first time. I let them know that it's a coping mechanism, and nothing to be ashamed of and that no on...

Re: Question I should have asked in class

There's that "on or about your person" thing. Also the part about "accessible [to you] without materially changing [your] position." I think you're okay if it's in the trunk, locked in a COM safe under the seat, etc.

Same here... So far I have not been able to clearly identify anyone carrying, but have seen some that I suspected might be. I've only "made" one guy at WalMart a couple years ago. Older gentleman, rough looking. He was wearing shorts and T-shirt, ball cap with a bunch of pins on it and a ...

Re: CHL Background Checks Question

What if your employer is the county? I understood what you meant, but I don't have an answer there. If you are one of three people that work in that office and the other two know your name, well... But what is your concern? I don't think this is grounds for dismissal, do you? Carrying there may be,...
