DWI and CHL
Good Day I have a friend who is interested in obtaining his Texas CHL. He is a certified LEO with me in the Coast Guard. Three and a half years ago, he got a DWI in Washington state. Texas calls for a five year wait from a DWI before you can apply for your CHL if I remember right. Does this requirem...

Re: Searched at the Ferry
I can't say for sure about the Bolivar Ferry, but I have daily experience with the Port Aransas Ferry...seeing as how they're both owned and run by TxDOT (as far as I know) I can't imagine there'd be much difference. That being said.... The Port Aransas Ferry some time after 9/11 hired a contracted ...

Re: TABC/CHL Service
And, as a note, the blue sign does NOT have to be blue. I have seen businesses make their own version. Just has to meet the guidelines of wording and size by TABC. The 51% DOES have to be in red and 5 inches high on the sign. HEB and most Stripes stores come to mind. Most of them have the lettering...

Re: TABC/CHL Service
Sorry about the long lag time to reply to questions. I've been away from a computer for a few days. C-dub--Red Letter sign = 51% sign and the Blue Letter sign = the "typical unlicensed possession" sign you refer to. Both were posted simultaneously. To their credit, the 51% sign was posted ...

TABC/CHL Service
Guys, it's not often that we're real impressed with the state's administrative offices. I wanted to fill you all in on an experience I recently had with our local TABC office concerning an establishment that had posted both the 51% sign and blue letter sign. Long story short, I walked in to a restau...

Re: 4 Hour CHL?
So, in the time I was out running the border I see there has been a lot of talk and it basically comes down to the guy is full of crap! As for the Utah thing...I don't care to carry a license issued by any state other than the one I call home...certainly not to circumvent the procedures that m...

4 Hour CHL?
Hey guys! Been a long time since I've posted here and admittedly, I haven't kept up with the changes to CHL over the last few months. There is a guy advertising on the radio in Corpus Christi that he can provide the necessary CHL training in 4 hours. Did the classroom requirement change recently or ...

Re: The Future of CHL
Thanks to Jim for helping out a young BM who still has trouble getting his point across (as was demonstrated in my Deck Watch Officer review board today). That IS exactly what I meant and noting the disadvantage of being able to distinguish the difference, I believe a CO's letter should suffice in t...

Re: The Future of CHL
OK, the upsides of having an online course would be standardized training, and more flexibility for those of us who have crazy work schedules that make it very difficult to attend a 2-day course. The downside of course would be less retained knowledge. As for what I would like to see changed, I woul...

Re: Do the same laws for CHL apply on recreational boats
It is a matter of safety for the Coasties and you. No it's not. I don't doubt that's what the Coasties have been taught and believe, but it's not true. Retrieving a gun from where it's safely stored, handling it, unloading it, and then the owner reloading it at the end, actually increases the chanc...

Re: Sitting in a restaurant.......
Sitting around second guessing yourself while doing nothing and passing up clear shots will get the cashier killed. If they threaten your family after shooting the cashier but you no longer have a clear shot, what then? In WWII, 6 million Jews died in concentration camps because everyone (Jews and ...

Re: Handcuffs?
If he gets up a attempts to leave he is committing another felony - shoot him again. Our instructor showed us a video in which bg enters the store and pulls out a gun at which point instructor stops the video and asks if we can legally shoot the bg if his back was to us. Many in the class said you ...

Agreed. That's probably why we haven't heard from the original poster...likely someone just trying to stir the pot if you know what I mean.dukalmighty wrote:jmra wrote:Got here late but this story is incredible.
