I don't see how this could be as dangerous as it is made out to be (except for deafening the baby in the event of misfire) if he's following several gun safety laws: checked to make sure it is unloaded with no ammo immediately accessible, and gun is pointed in safe direction.

That being said, I sure wouldn't do it, but maybe he's a stay at home dad with a CHL that runs errands frequently with his young child.
