Informative article, it brings a question though. How long does it take for a barrel to cool down after a shot, and is the barrel considered hot after one shot?

Re: Thinking about buying a new deer rifle.

Most of the money will go in to the scope. I have yet to decide which one. I guess when I get it I'll post a picture of it. I sure appreciate every ones advise.

Good luck. I have never seen a factory Remington 700 with a light colored stock.
I've seen them, just not in a store lately.

Re: Thinking about buying a new deer rifle.

Sorry, I've been out of town for a couple of days. I want a wood stock for the wood grain, it's a personal thing I guess. I'm not going to get into the caliber debate, my mind is made up after a lot of thought about it, and I'm not entertaining that thought anymore. The last part is the scope, and I'm thinking of a 50mm, but I need to look at them more. I have been bow hunting for over thirty years, and never wanted a deer rifle until now.

I'm looking to get a wood stock in bolt action. I'm going to fancy it up a bit because my brother got me a very nice gun case for Christmas. :woohoo I can't go to deer camp and open that case with a plain old rifle. It's got to match the case. I did look at the sako, but I think I've picked the rifle, just trying to figure what scope.

Thinking about buying a new deer rifle.

I've been looking at the Remington 700 bdl 30.06. I haven't decided which scope, but it will probably be a leupold. Any thoughts?
