So far my experience with the 327 has been in Ruger's SP101 with a 3" barrel. With full power loads it has almost all the flash & bang of the 357... on par with 9mm +p+ or mid-range 357's in my opinion in terms of velocity & bullet weight. In this platform it's both accurate and recoil is easily managed. The 327 is definitely more than adequate for self defense purposes, but unless you reload any perceived advantage over the 357 is likely offset by the cost & availability of ammo. Fortunately I reload.

Now I have my eye on one of the Blackhawks in this round... I have a weakness for single actions and I think this might be more my speed. Little more weight, little longer barrel, and sporting 8 shots... what's not to like?

Spring Guns & Ammo - Magnum's Allowed!

After posing a simple question in another thread about whether a 327 Magnum would be allowed at another range (and being intentionally ignored by the owner), I received an email from Ryan at Spring Guns & Ammo and was assured that "all handgun calibers and rifle calibers up to 308 win (223, 30carbine, 6.8, 7.62x39 etc..)" and shotguns with slugs were allowed on their range. Yes! A straight forward answer to a simple question.

Apparently I'm not the only one who sees banning a caliber because the word Magnum is attached to the moniker while allowing other rounds that are indistinguishable except for the name is ironic at best, and uniformed and ignorant at worst. (ie banning 32 H&R, 357 and 41's because they are "Magnums" while allowing 10mm, 357 Sig as well as 9mm +p+ on the same visit... ? Yes folks, it has happened)

Having clear, concise rules and being willing to answer simple questions about those rules makes it easier on the shooter to follow the rules and avoids any confusion. Spring Guns has a clean, decently ventilated range and I'll be back to check out their tactical night soon. Big thumbs up for the straight shooters there! :thumbs2:
