One word: Insurance.
Just the other week I was told that some convenience stores forbid employees with CHLs from carrying at work. Even on the night shift. The view is apparently that if you give the bad guys what they want, they'll let you alone. Not sure what you're supposed to do if it doesn't pan out like that...
I know what you mean. I find it so frustrating. Companies are more concerned about lawsuits than the lives of their employees. We had a case here in El Paso a few years back. There was a fellow who was a decorated Vietnam Vet who had retired from his civilian job, but did not make enough to get by so worked a night shift at a Circle K. One night a couple of kids came in with a Marlin .22 to rob the place. He did not resist, gave them all the money, a bunch of cigarettes and beer. Exactly like the store told him to do. The kids were leaving and then for no reason, one of them stopped at the door, turned around and shot him one time in the chest and then ran away. The guy died almost instantly.

I guess store management can at least be content that he followed store orders. I am sure his widow will get by just fine.

I'll just never understand the logic. The guys who are going to walk in and rob your store, are not going to submit their photos and fingerprints to the DPS ahead of time. Perhaps they are afraid of resistance in the event of a robbery. I don't understand that one either.
