What if you can't take the garage door remote out of the vehicle? My 2012 Toyota Tacoma and my wife's 2017 Ford Explorer both have Homelink garage door openers built in.
I don't have mine programmed for that reason. We use the remotes and take them in the house with us.
Even if they get into my garage there’s a couple more lines of defense. In reality nothing is burglar proof and anything can be defeated with the correct knowledge. I found this video interesting:
In my younger days I probably would just unscrew the light bulb on my opener after dark and sit inside until someone to open the garage door and point a green laser that may be attached to a metallic lead projector. Surprise!
A smart criminal makes for a tough opponent, fortunately most aren’t smart. On one of the gun forums they mentioned a jewelry store with alarms on wireless and land line that was defeated and the store cleaned out without an alarm going off. That’s not your typical criminal but anything can be defeated so I do what I can and have insurance for the rest.
My brother was VP and General manager of a local camera store chain with 5 stores. Even with alarms, bars, and shatter proof glass they would be hit. Their alarms had audio recording and one incident recorded a truck driven backwards truck crashing through the building, bars and glass. There was one voice that said "let's get it" and two and a half minutes of rustling sounds before the truck drove away loaded with thousands of dollars of high end cameras and lenses. They only went for Leica, Leitz, Hasselblad and Nikon equipment. Even the less intelligent slugs can use brute force to defeat any obstacles in their way. They were gone before the alarm company and police could even start to respond. When we are out of town I put a screw driver in the rails to keep the garage door from opening.

Re: What are the options if someone stole my garage door remote?

RoyGBiv wrote: Thu Jul 09, 2020 12:40 pm I have a suggestion.....

1. Delete all the codes from the garage door operator again.
2. Confirm that none of the remotes will work.
3. Re-Learn only 1 remote.... not all.
4. Try to use one of the other remotes.

My door operator has the Green learn button, so, not the same as the OP.
However..... when I add my car (homelink) or a fob (that I use on my motorcycle), I usually have to train the fob/homelink to an existing remote. Once the fob/homelink is "trained" I do not need to add it to the operator/learn button because it's using the same freq as the already-learned remote that was the source of training for the fob...

So.... If your stolen remote was "trained" by the same source as your other remotes, then deleting and re-learning the old remotes will also add back the stolen one.

You should verify that adding one back doesn't add back the others.

Hopefully that's clear?

If adding one back adds all of them back, you would need to change the DIP switches inside the operator, find a remote with DIP switches that you can set to match, have the operator learn it, then use that remote to re-train all the other remotes.
I assume the "rolling code function" prevents that. I have two other remotes and neither worked after the code removal. I programmed one and checked it for operation. Then I retried the second remote again and it didn't work. I then programmed it. My brother has a third remote for my garage and is coming over later to get it programmed, so I will try it before programming it.

Re: What are the options if someone stole my garage door remote?

Found my owner's manual, My model # is 139.53975SRT1. It's very easy to erase the codes if any one has this model and needs to erase their codes. The red button is called the learn button. Used to program remotes and keyless pads. In the case of erasing the codes depressing the red button until the light by it goes out (about 6 seconds) will erase all the codes. Done and all my remaining remotes have been reprogrammed. Though I hope no one else has to use this information it works for two other models listed in my manual - 139.53962SRT1 & 139.53966SRT1
Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions.

Thanks. I just have to find my owner's manual to see how to cancel the codes. I'm pretty sure the learn button is used to do that, but I need to know the sequence or duration to use. Still unplugged for the time being.

C-dub wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 10:22 pm Definitely UNPLUG and lock as fast as you can if you haven't already. Use manually until it can be reprogrammed however that must happen.
Thanks, Chris! I did that already. From some research I found all the codes can be erased which will keep all the remotes from working until each one is reprogrammed. The cover which has the model # is missing (I had to replace a position switch adjustment screw and I guess I misplaced it long ago.) Looking for my owners manual to see how to cancel all the codes.

Thanks. Did that first thing.

What are the options if someone stole my garage door remote?

Someone broke into my wife's car last night and rifled through it. They just strew a bunch of papers and our grandson's koozie on the street. The only thing of value was a Mag lite which they failed to see. At least that's what we thought until one of our garage doors was opened in the middle of the day. We then realized her mini garage door remote was gone. I assume that was a drive by test since we were home. It's a Craftsman opener with a red programming button and my question is this. I know the opener generates the code to program the remotes, but is there any way to defeat using the missing remote? I have turned off the power for the time being.
