Canyon Lake Area Mountain Lions
We received a call last light from our daughter who lives near Fischer about an incident at their home last night. Their daughters were calling in one of their cats and noticed some noise, low growls, and rustling in the tall grass at the rear of the property. They thought it was a dog and called my daughter and her husband to investigate with a flashlight. They first saw two sets of glowing eyes that were of large animals. After my son-in-law made some noise they saw two tan colored animals laying under a tree with their cat at the top. The cats finally stood up and that's when they realized by their conformation, long tails and color it was two cougars. This was witnessed by the entire family from the driveway. My son in law fetched his gun to scare them, but they had retreated into an adjacent large ranch property behind them. He fired a couple of shots into the ground anyway. They were able to retrieve their cat from the tree. They investigated the area this morning and confirmed it was two cougars by the depressions and foot prints. By their size my son-in law assumed they were female or young lions. I think they were probably young litter mates since mature cougars are usually lone hunters. According to my daughter there has been some trapping near Wimberley to remove some of these large feline predators.
