Thanks, TAM. I'll write it up when I take it to the range. They are fun to shoot. We shot my dad's old 1960's CMP carbin and I bought my own when I got old enough. They were my favorite guns to shoot. I reloaded and always had plenty of ammo. My dad's gun is sort of tied up (he passed away in 2011 and then my mom passed this year. Mine was stolen back in 1995. I figure I'll end up with my dad's, but I couldn't wait any longer. We're coming up to DFW area (Mansfield) 10/18 so I think I'll bring it and let my son-in-law have some fun with it at Alpine. The Annoyed Man wrote:Good for you! Re: What firearm do you want to get next?
It's funny how everything old is new again. Back in the mid 1960's the .45-70 was dead and Marlin designed the Marlin .444 . When we got the first one in I ran my hands over it and said I'd buy one if I ever started deer hunting. I pushed them to a lot of east Texas hunters but they always deferred to a Marlin 336 in 30-30. I even tried selling them on the .35 Remington, but rarely made a sale on it either. Then just a few years later marlin introduces a lever action in .45-70 and the .444 is overshadowed by it. I did finally get the 444 a couple of months ago, but it's the later version with a pistol grip stock. It was made by Marlin not Remington. I'm working on my next firearm and will post if it comes to fruition
