TAM, I agree the article is very confusing. No information about the kidnapping and murder included in an article about a kidnapping and murder trial?? The ability to string together cognizant thoughts and cohesive sentences by journalists is lost. I stopped taking the newspaper after the umpteenth time of reading a paragraph referring to something, event, name, etc. never stated in the article. Her lawyer Allen Tanner is a slug. He is famous for his gangster rap defense of a cold blooded cop killer in Houston. He represented someone I know personally in a sentencing trial and disregarded everything his client told him. He introduced a confidential document from my friend's psychiatrist that was very damaging. I won't go into great detail but it was a serious crime my friend committed during a six month spell of being off his rocker and he pleaded guilty to the charges. He was just in court for sentencing by a jury and Tanner managed to get him 50 years when he could have accepted a plea bargain for 25 yrs. The information he let slip by made it mandatory he serve half his sentence before he's eligible for parole versus about one third. The Annoyed Man wrote:Exactly who is on trial in that article, Mona Nelson, or David Davis? The accused in the courtroom appears to be Mona Nelson, but her attorneys appear to be trying David Davis.philip964 wrote:http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas ... houtexhcat
No national media coverage of this trial and its right here in Houston or we wouldn't even know about it.
Can we look forward to Quannel X protest marches if she is found guilty?
And Q10 will never spout anything but idiocy, because he is an intellectual and moral idiot.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
Her story/answer about why she didn't submit the pictures of George Zimmerman's injury made her look more stupid and ignorant of the law than the verdict. Since the injuries were "small" and not life threatening, self defense is not justified and she didn't see the need to include them in getting the arrest. I guess you have to wait until you are on the precipice of death before you shoot. She totally disregarded the language of law and legal justification for lethal force for purely political reasons. The Annoyed Man wrote:Angela Corey's interview comments are simply appalling, as are the lead prosecutor's. Essentially, calling the verdict a lie.

Some interesting facts: 95% of the people who have participated in the program are criminals. No one in the history of the program has been harmed while in the program. 17% of those in the program return to crime compared to 41% coming out of prison.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
Unfortunately from my experience many prosecutors are not interested in justice. The only truth that interests them is what may support their case and they're willing to obfuscate any thing that would help prove innocence. It's about the win. Of course defense lawyers try to keep any thing that would point to guilt under the radar as well, but prosecutors have much more information and evidence. It's a game of who can use parts of the truth to the best advantage, not the whole truth.philip964 wrote:I was being somewhat sarcastic. (no smilie for that other than the wink one) But on the other hand, I believe a prosecutor should be after the truth not to find the arrested person guilty. Maybe I am naive, or maybe that's what a prosecutor is suppose to do, but instead they go after notches in their belt. I would have trouble sleeping if I was a prosecutor and I sent an innocent man to jail, especially if it was due to me hiding evidence that showed the innocence. America and society deserves the truth here, not a fabricated railroad job. Let the chips fall were they may.VMI77 wrote:Maybe my remark wasn't clear. By "you're kidding" I meant: why would the prosecutor play fair; yes, it's a straight up railroad job; and no, they don't care about the truth at all, only the politics. The Annoyed Man wrote:They have been railroading Zimmerman since day one. Just a few days ago, a story was "leaked" about Zimmerman supposedly being a child-molester, a charge against which there is no defense because there are no other witnesses than the person making the accusation, who claims to be the victim. On the one hand, you've got the prosecutor's office asking the judge to issue a gag order against the defense so that the defense may not make any public statements in their client's favor, and on the other hand, you've got people sympathetic to the prosecution dragging Zimmerman's name through the mud with unprovable and unsubstantiated charges. This is a travesty against justice. This case would have never lasted this long in Texas, and it would have probably gone in the accused's favor. Once reliably conservative Florida is no longer so (thanks to Obama's grassroots campaign support (i.e. SEIU, ACORN, et al), and the bankruptcy of hard leftist ideology has polluted Florida's political environment. That is the ONLY reason—that and flat out racist race-baiting african-american attorneys who have no official capacity but who are "consulted" by the prosecutor's office—is why this case lingers on.VMI77 wrote:You're kidding, right?philip964 wrote:Why would the prosecutors not want to play fair. Are they attempting to railroad the defendant? Are we not after the truth?

They promise an "internal investigation," but in my book the persons who did this should be imprisoned for a very VERY dangerous slander that has led the nation to the brink of racial violence.
NBC is criminally involved here. This isn't mere negligence. This is a deliberate attempt to drive the narrative in a certain direction by altering the facts of the story. People are calling for Zimmerman's arrest, DEAD or alive, as a racial profiling murderer based on this altered 911 recording. If a hair on Zimmerman's head is harmed, NBC is directly at fault, and somebody is going to have to fry for this.
This is intolerable!

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
I agree 911 dispatcher directions are suggestions, but Mr. Zimmerman called the Sanford PD not 911. Whether it was a police officer or a civilian dispatcher speaking to him isn't noted anywhere I've found so it's unknown if there was any police authority or not.A-R wrote:The 911 Operator actually tells Zimmerman "we don't need you to do that (follow him)".philip964 wrote:They also played the part where the 911 operator said not to follow the person.
This may seem like nitpicking, but every little deviation from the absolute truth gets magnified in a case like this so thought I'd point it out. And this is an important distinction, at least as far as the ignorant and quick-to-judge public is concerned, even though we all (should) know that 911 operators/dispatchers are NOT necessarily sworn law enforcement officers and have no authority to tell someone NOT to step outside.
That said, staying in his vehicle was GOOD ADVICE that Zimmerman should have heeded. But it had no force of law and is really irrelevant for the most part.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
According to an article in the Miami Herald the lawyer for Martin's Family combed his cell phone records and found the girl. The lawyer guaranteed to keep the girl's identity protected and will only turn his interview over to the feds, not Sanford PD. Martin's phone records indicate he was on the phone with her while Zimmerman was talking to Sanford PD. Is it reasonable to expect a 16 year to take that kind of initiative, who can say why she would or wouldn't, especially if her parents were concerned with her getting involved?bayouhazard wrote:If the girl is telling the truth why didn't she come forward a month ago? If she is telling the truth, why didn't she call her boyfriend's mama when she heard what she said she heard? Even the next day to see if he was OK when he didn't return her calls as a concerned girlfriend?
Very strange timing. Exactly when the case against GZ is falling apart, she suddnly remembers a phone conversation from a month ago.
I guess it could have happened like she says.
As for his cleared charges in the assualt case the article reports Zimmerman was in a scuffle with an undercover PD. He entered a pre-trial diversion program to get his record cleared. I am not justice system wise so I don't know if that's the same as charges dropped. Another tidbit in the same article; Zimmerman is the son of a VA Supreme Court Magistrate and a court records clerk and has had made more than his share of questionable reports to police. Sanford PD still contends it did their best to investigate.

We don't. I guess I'll give her the benefit of the doubt since the timing fits (confirmed by NBC News). I'm sure she'll be called to testify under oath. The fact that he was on the phone all the while according to the 16 year old girl including while he was going to the store lends a lot of creedence (to me at least) that Zimmerman was the aggressor. I'd bet a dollar to a dime he's indicted. JMHOBeiruty wrote:The conversation with his 16-yr old girlfriend was not recorded. Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
The more details we get the more confusing it seems. Ms Cutcher's interview imparted a very intriguing detail if true regarding the fight, i.e. the fight was not going on in her backyard where the shooting occured. Victim face down is also interesting. Leads one to believe they were face to face, but 240 lb Mr Zimmerman while being beaten by 140 lb Martin was able to draw his weapon and fire. Curious, at least to me. Maybe the feds can get to the bottom of it. But it may end up being one of those incidents that never get resolved completely.Hoosier Daddy wrote:I read there were a lot of burglaries in the neighborhood recently. There are so many things wrong with this story. If all the facts ever come out, I won't be surprised if neither of them ends up smelling like roses.

To be accurate Mr. Zimmerman called Sanford Police Department non emergency line, not 911. Maybe just a technicality, but if he considered this a threat to himself or the neighborhood worthy of police intervention with the potential for armed conflict (I know that may be supposition on my part, but he does have a weapon with him) I wonder why he wouldn't call 911? He has contacted the police some 46 times in the last 15 months. No details on how many were emergency 911 calls.Keith B wrote:Umm, he did call 911. I think before you pass judgment on this, you need to read all of the posts, the news articles and listen to the tapes from his call to police and the other 911 call tapes. While I agree from the info that we have there probably could have been things that were done differently and it sounds like there were some mistakes made in approaching the guy and engaging him, we don't know enough to say that the man who shot him wasn't justified because he was attacked by the teen. All of the facts should come out of the investigation. And, since none of us are conducting that investigation, we have to wait an see what the findings are.gara56 wrote:The shooter was an idiot plain and simple. His actions only do a diservice to the rest of us--especially if this guy had a CHL. This kid did not approach him--the shooter did. If he did fear for his life why did he not call 911. This idiot thinks his participation in a neighborhood watch program gives him the right to enforce laws. I hope they throw the book at him. I also hope his stupid action doesn't cost the rest of us our rights to possess a firearm. I appoligize if this offends some of the shooter supporters out there.
