Re: Are there any Linux users on this board?
I realize this is weeks later, but if you just want to mess around with Linux distros and see if you like them, there are live CD's available that don't require installation or wiping out your existing OS. You can also grab something like VirtualBox and install Linux to that, which will let you try ...

Re: Are there any Linux users on this board?
Have loaded multiple linux variations on a system for many years but just like Mac, the applications I need to run my business just are not available on anything other than Windows. I do not see any advantage to running windows in linux or mac. I still do most of my work with XP pro and see no reas...

Re: Gabby Giffords' Gun Control Group Hopes to Take on NRA
I think a lot of people would be fine with background checks on every sale. Unfortunately it is because they don't understand the history of the actual debate, which isn't accidental. Once banning guns became an unpopular stance politically, the move to couch everything in "common sense!" ...

Re: Butler Creek Maglula LULA Loader for AR
Yes, they are helpful, especially if you're planning on shooting a lot, or don't want to waste all your shooting time reloading mags. Worth every penny, in my opinion. The pistol one is also great.

Re: Are there any Linux users on this board?
I used to run it on my desktops, but the lack of decent DAW software pushed me back over to Windows. Now I just have one linux box I use for XBMC and as an ssh server to proxy from work/chat on IRC/etc.

Re: Address Change turn around
Mine took right around a week.
I had some issues with a previous move, where the card never showed up. For some reason it had gotten bounced back by the postal service.
I called DPS and they had it back out the next day. They've always been really helpful and easy to deal with via phone.

Re: Close Encounter?
Unfortunately, I did not have my phone with me, so I didn't think to call the police. If there ever is another occurrence, I will put that in my action plan. I would definitely recommend always keeping your cell phone on you. They are thin enough now that it isn't inconvenient and payphones are qui...

Re: Looking for gun suggestions from women
There is a tendency for people to recommend tiny guns and revolvers for new women shooters. It makes sense if it is a carry gun, but for a general self defense gun it just leads to frustration for any new shooter, man or woman. The slides are harder to manipulate, the triggers are longer, the recoil...

Re: Suspects flee bank robbery, enter my office building to
I work a couple of buildings over from you. I didn't realize this was an old post and thought this was about the cop car that was smashed up on Imperial Valley yesterday.
I guess that one remains a mystery!

Comparing against other countries doesn't really tell you much because of the other factors involved.Beiruty wrote: How about KSA? Why the murder rate is just below 1 per 100k?
For instance, Sweden has no death penalty and a murder rate of 1 per 100k.

Re: UPDATE: 11/14/12
Looking at these numbers your statement earlier is disproven. While there was a drop in 2009 from 2008, the rate has steadily climbed since then, however the rate has declined in states with the Death Penalty Huh? My earlier statement that the murder rate in non-death penalty states is lower, and h...

Re: UPDATE: 11/14/12
Here's a link to a site I know nothing about, other than it claims to take the data from FBI reports. It appears to be an anti-death penalty site. http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-nationally-and-state" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If the numbers are correct, i...

Re: Problems Concealing
I don't think I would worry very much about the contour (or lack thereof) of the belt. Even the stiffest of belts will start forming to your waist after a little wear. The kydex is there more as a vertical stabilizer than a horizontal one. Even with the Comp-Tac contour, the first week or two of wea...

I have carried this exact knife every day for 17 years. It does what it's supposed to, and it is quite large. http://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-C07S-Police-Model-Knife/dp/B000BT1G94/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1352948864&sr=1-1&keywords=spyderco+police" onclick="w...

Re: UPDATE: 11/14/12
Personally I don’t like the death penalty, but I think it is a necessary evil. It is a deterrent. Several years ago, 3 inmates escaped from Huntsville or somewhere, and killed several people on their way to Oklahoma. They knew what they were doing and didn’t care. One of them made the comment “if I...
