Re: April 2009 Applications

I have carried several times since I received my plastic earlier this week. But tonight I did the "Wally Walk". I didn't tell my wife until we were back in the car. I wanted to know if she noticed. She had no clue that I was carrying. Now I just have to get used to wearing my belt so tight.

Re: April 2009 Applications

Called DPS today to follow up with conversation I had Wednesday and was told then that she would add my name to list to ask about since everything has been in for a month. First, as soon as she took my application #, she told me that I was going to be mad at her, as the system crashed and I would need to call back later. :waiting: Called back an hour later. Was told that mine is at the printers. I asked for an ETA, and was told that she could not give one, as they send them to the printer in batches of hundreds and have to do a QC check when they come back to verify the license is correct. Status online still says "processing application".

I had a card from my vet for my dog go from his office on FM2920 in Spring to Memphis, Tn. and back to me in Spring. Never could figure that one out. :headscratch
The USPS contracts with FedEx and Memphis is the main hub and HQ of FedEx.

On another note, I called DPS yesterday. Last time I called I was asked to check back in August. Spoke with someone who I think is new, but was very nice. She said she would put my name in a list that she has to turn in to find out what is happening. She said everything is in. It has been about a month since I was told that everything was in and waiting for a technician to "clear" it and then be printed. At least until my previous call: http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... 82#p303182" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So I guess I once again have everything in... :banghead:

Re: April 2009 Applications

Day 95... Wanted to find out since almost a month ago, I was told everything was in. I was specifically told then (as well as two weeks ago) that my bg checks were in. I was only waiting for the technician to "clear" the application and then have it printed.

Today I was told that it is waiting on my bg check. When I said I was already told twice that bg was completed and in, she told me that it is "waiting for an item that is considered to be part of bg check". I was stunned. She even asked if I was still there. I answered and said that I do not understand and re-iterated what I had been told the other two times. I then specifically asked what bg check is pending since I was told it was only waiting for the technician to clear it and then it would be printed.

She said that I was correct and then admitted that what it is waiting for is to be assigned a number and that is "considered part of the bg check." So I guess they are now trying to placate us by stating that everything is "part of the bg check". Unbelievable.

you just never know how their doing things over there . it just doesn't make sense .
Maybe they are giving Harris County higher priority due to the excessive backlog. Nah, they wouldn't do that. ;-)

Re: April 2009 Applications

It's day 93 for me today. Figure I will wait until about day 110, and call DPS for an update and then decide if I should request a hearing. I really do not want to go past day 120 without protecting my rights by following the proscribed process in the statute. It has also been almost three weeks since I was told that my bg check was completed and everything was in and two weeks ago when I was told that it was waiting for a technician to clear it and send it to be printed.

Glad to see that some have finally seen a breakthrough. Hopefully, the rest of us will as well.

Re: April 2009 Applications

I am now at day 84 and thought I would be a glutton for punishment and called DPS to check on my status since my bg check had been in for more than a week. The person I spoke with remembered me from last week. I said that I was calling because I will be at 90 days next week and if I am not approved, I will have to file a request for a hearing. She emphatically said "no you do not". I said that the statue is worded in such a way, that it is automatically denied if not issued within 90 days. She said that It is not my fault that they are behind (I bit my tongue) so I do not need to do anything. She then said that since my bg check is completed, the technician just has to clear it. I asked what the technician has to "clear"? She told me that "it is waiting for her to clear it so that it can be printed".

So apparently there is only one person who can "clear" an application to allow it to be printed, as the person I spoke with twice referred to the person as "her" (a specific person). No ETA on how long this part would take.

I will not immediately file a request for a hearing once I pass day 90, but I will file one before day 120, unless Mr. Cotton's action comes first.

Re: April 2009 Applications

Just got off the phone with DPS to check the status (since it only shows "Processing Application" online).

I was told that my BG check just came back and that everything else was in. I was then told to call back by the 2nd week of August. I wanted to try and get more information, but the technician seemed a bit haggard (I had a lengthy wait on hold) so I just wished her a great day and thanked her for helping me. I'll call back in a week or so.

So it appears that from the time the PIN was sent (application actually in the system) it took about a month for my BG check to get completed. BTW, I am in Tarrant County.

Re: April 2009 Applications

04.18.2009 : CHL Course Completed (Ft. Worth)
04.20.2009 : Paperwork Mailed
04.24.2009 : Paperwork Received
xx.xx.2009: Sent a cashiers check not sure when cashed.
06.03.2009 : PIN received - "Processing Application".
07.02.2009 : Called DPS to check on status
XX.XX.XXXX : Application Approved
XX.XX.XXXX : In Hand

I called DPS today to check on the status since it had been over 60 days since it had been received by DPS. I was told that the wait is long and it is taking "around" 60 days from when the application is entered into the system, which is when the PIN is created.

So I guess I am looking at August and at least 90 days.

Ron
