Re: Should have used a revolver for my CHL test
I attribute the phenomena to the 'law of shifting definition'. (I just made it up btw). I agree with you Abraham...a pistol is a pistol is a pistol. There are different classifications of pistols: revolver, semi-automatic and single shot.Abraham wrote:Why do some here think the word 'pistol' applies only to semi-autos? I wonder where this misinformed idea came from? Anyone know? Pistol defined: A firearm that is held and fired with one hand. A revolver is also a pistol.
I think the word pistol morphed into the conception of semi-autos only recently to make it easier to say than semi-auto. Personally I find the morphing confusing.
At one time "pistol" was synonymous with "handgun". It appears now days that "pistol" is generally accepted to mean "semi-automatic".
Wilkpedia gives a pretty good run down on how the change in terminology....changed.

Back on topic. I'd much rather have the option of selecting what type of handgun I can legally carry. I think most of us would. Using a revolver to qualify with will limit your choices of carry guns forever, unless you re-qualify with a semi-auto.
Just my $.02 worth.
