TLE2 wrote:Joe817 - the one I was talking about was near where Angelo's Barbecue is now! :thumbs2: It was more of a surplus store and back lot: vehicles, parts of airplanes, etc. etc.
That might have been Omaha Surplus, before they moved to a bigger location down the street from Angelo's about a block. Omaha is still there on White Settlement. :cheers2: You DO know Ft.Worth rather well. :cheers2:

Re: Army Surplus Store

Oh the stories I could tell you about what the real Army surplus stores used to be like would make your mouth water. As a kid growing up in Fort Worth there were 2 HUGE surplus stores(in the CBD where the Tarrant County Convention Center is now) that my best friend and I used to go to. This was right after the Korean War when there were TONS of surplus stuff of all types were on the market. Even guns, although no U.S. guns that I can remember.

Thanks for the memories.

Re: Army Surplus Store

Another really nice clean store is in North Dallas or Richardson area just on the west side of 75 just a couple miles up from 635.
I know that store! It's in the N.W. corner of 75 & Beltline Rd. Great army surplus store. Thanks for reminding me.

Re: Army Surplus Store

There was a time when an army surplus store was just that.....a store that sold real army surplus goods. And they were in plentiful supply.

What we see now is mostly sporting goods accessories stores, that call themselves a army surplus store. They have nothing to do with army surplus, except a few olive drab or cammy colored clothes, made for the commercial market. And most of what they carry, like USA1 said, is stuff made in countries EXCEPT the United States.

There is ONE store that I know of in my area, that survived that transition. Omaha Surplus in Ft.Worth is still a genuine Army Surplus Store. It's been there for as long as I can remember....at least back to the 60's. I go in about once or twice a year and get something from them. Check them out:
