Hmmm....a good one. If memory serves me correctly, it was introduced in the 1870's or 1880's. It was commonly used to convert the Colt 1860 percussion revolver to a cartridge gun. It didn't see a very long life, as the .45 long colt cartridge came shortly afterwards. It cannot fit any .44 special gun...or .44 Russian, .44 S&W or any variant.

I never owned a pistol using that caliber. The closest thing I had was a Remington 1873 44-40 single action. I would have loved to have had one of those conversion Colt's. They'd be worth a mint today.
