Thanks usa1, couldn't have done it wit out ya!
Now I get to wait around for some paperwork from another city before I send in the packet. Oh joy, more waiting before I can officially start waiting!

Re: Knit Picking about "The EXAM"
Well, I finally took the class today, and it was exactly as I expected, thanks to all the people who posted in this thread. There were no surprises, and everything went very smooth.
What was talked about in class was exactly the type of things we talk about here daily.
I passed out all the cards I made up, thanks to dicion, and most were very interested and wanted to know about the forum. I got the instructors' permission to pass out the cards, and invited everyone there to stop by and join in the fun.
Oh. I scored 98% on the written exam(missed 1, doggonit), and scored 248 on the proficiency test.

Re: Knit Picking about "The EXAM"
This has been one incredible thread. I want to thank everybody who posted. It was most informative, I learned a lot and I hope people who have similar questions in the future, read this thread in its entirety.
I think it's so informative that I suggest it might make a suitable sticky. But that's not for me to decide.
Thanks again everyone!

Re: Knit Picking about "The EXAM"
Thanks usa1, and garcia. I'm not concerned about the proficiency test one bit. It will be fun. I look forward to the classroom instruction too. But I will be disappointed in myself if I don't score at least 245 on the shooting portion.
Wifey is paying for the class, combining the Father's Day present to my birthday present. Soooo I'm all happy!

Re: Knit Picking about "The EXAM"
I'm taking it from these folks as they have a class in Arlington on July 18 down in Highland Village, near the Parks. They do the proficiency test at the Winchester Gallery range.wford wrote:I saw you were in Arlington and was curious to where you were going for your class ? It also looks like others have addressed most of your questions. It is a long day and hopefully your instructor will have cool stories to tell. :)

Me too usa1, me too. I sincerely believe that Texans have a different mindset than those living in other states. I've always felt that. All my life.usa1 wrote:

Knit Picking about "The EXAM"
As I have time to obsess about taking the CHL class, and studying, and going to the gun range, several questions pop up in my little pea brain:
1. What happens to the qualifying target we use on the proficiency test? Can we keep it, and frame it? Or does the instructor hang on to it?
2. In a related question, if our accuracy is so good as to punch paper to the extent the instructor cannot definitely discern 2 holes from 3 or 4 in the same small area, what happens to the scoring? Am I penalized? I assume she/he has to count 50 separate paper punches for scoring purposes.
3. How many questions are on the written portion of the test? And are they all multiple choice, fill in the blanks or essay?
4. As this is an all day affair(for all practical purposes), do you have classroom instructions first thing, break for lunch, meet up at the gun range, do the profiency test, then come back to the classroom, then the instructor grades the 2 tests(classroom & profiency), or what?
Just trying to get an idea of what to expect....and prepare for.
