I may be an outlier when it comes to stuff like this. My last laptop was purchased brand new with Vista and I ran that for almost 8 years without any major issues and very few minor ones that I was able to resolve myself. My new laptop came with 8.1 and I've had it for almost a year now without any issues. I have more complaints about Office 2013 than the OS.
