Same as others here, but that's not surprising given this is a gun forum. Although, I did wait a little longer until my daughter showed interest to take her shooting. Before that, I did teach some basic safety since we do have guns in the house. And she had been to the range with me a few times , so it wasn't a complete mystery to her. She asked about shooting around 9 or 10y of age and at 12 did her first IDPA match. It was a local club match and they let her shoot her .22, but she did well and beat most of the women and a few guys that day. She likes rifle better and has only done one other match since then.
I knew there would be a short window before other interests started encroaching on our father daughter time at the range. She has become very involved in fastpitch softball and plays on two different teams. She would like to play in college and do well enough in high school to get a scholarship of some kind to do that. She doesn't shoot as often any more, but knows how and knows the safety rules and can safely handle a firearm.
