If this holds up, they need to let NY and a few other states know. The law, which was passed in September, provided carry permits for D.C. residents – only if they could show a good reason to carry a weapon, like a legitimate fear of injury or, as the law states, “any other proper reason for carrying a pistol.”
Judge Scullin again found the law, known as the “good reason” provision, unconstitutional.

Re: Is "Shall Issue" in NY's future?
Upstate NY is very very different from "The City." Geographically and to a certain extent, politically. I moved away from Upstate when I was 18y and left for the Navy, so I didn't know nearly as much as Jim about all that. The differences are similar to those between San Francisco or Los Angeles or Chicago or Austin and the rural areas of their respective states.

Upstate is very nice, but as long as my guns aren't welcome I share your sentiment.jmra wrote:Wild horses couldn't drag me to NY.

Re: Is "Shall Issue" in NY's future?
Thanks Jim.
I saw where you provided all or most of this same information in an older thread and considered adding this link to that thread, but it really was about something else and I've been trying a little more to not derail threads lately.
You are probably correct about the likelihood of the situation in NY changing. However, things have been swinging back in favor of gun rights advocates. It sure would be nice to see NY change and to recognize other states' licenses. I might actually think about going back up there to see some old friends and take my wife and daughter to see some old hang outs.

It's logic like this that has been getting overruled in appeals and federal courts in other areas around the country. California, for one place. If the dealer pushes it further the same thing could happen in NY.The NYPD denied Knight’s application, saying that he had been selling firearms without incident for years and that he failed to show he’s in more danger than others in his profession.
