Unfortunately, many breeds that were once imposing and great protectors have effectively been neutered and had their teeth removed by the AKC and their policy that a dog should not bite under any circumstance. There are some that you just can't breed the protective instinct out of, but the Mastiff, Great Dane, Doberman, and others are mere shadows of what they once were and should be. Fortunately, the human was able to take care of herself and her family.
