Re: Occupy Wall Street

The Mad Moderate wrote: So because it's his company (publicly traded btw) he should be absolved of taxes because they were already payed? Sorry that logic wouldn't hold water with a first grader.
Have you ever tried explaining taxes to a first grader? Tell one you will pay him $5 for raking leaves and then only give them $3 or $4 dollars and tell them the $1 or $2 dollars you kept are a tax for maintenance and upkeep or replacement of the rake they used and see if they think any tax is fair.

Now, as adults we realize that a tax of some kind is necessary. However, it is no concern of anyone how much money I am capable of earning for my family. This question of how much does someone need is ridiculous.

Interesting. Being at least part Border Collie, it might be the most intelligent one in the group.

I will have less income than that this year but I have to pay 14% of everything I earn to the FICA Fairy (more like an evil troll) plus $850 on my first $18000 of income, plus 15% on everything over $18000 if I earn that much.

Help a brother out. What am I doing wrong?
I don't know about that one. I guess we all pay the FICA guys.

Re: Occupy Wall Street

That's more than I was aware of. I thought the tax we paid on an automobile was a state tax and it was fixed at somewhere around 6-6.5%. It's been a while since I've bought a car.

I knew that would come up and it is an untrue rumor pushed by the RWM every year, yes 51% of income earners do not pay any income tax but they pay takes in other places. So no it is no "no share".
Please tell me how much any of them pay in FEDERAL taxes. I am unaware of any federal taxes for any purchase.

Thinking ..... gasoline? Is that one?

As far as your math lesson goes, well it is enlightening. In your own example you pay the same rate, 8%. You may pay different amounts, but the interest rate is the same. If you spend $22k of your $24k you will you will have paid $1,760 in taxes, while if I spent $50k I will have paid $4,000 in taxes. The rest of my untaxed earnings is money I earned and have not spent, yet. Why do you want to take something I've worked hard for away from me? I worked hard and spent my own money to go to college so I could get my job. There will always have to be ditch diggers and folks to bag groceries in this world. Are those jobs worth $124k per year?

The only way you could possibly pay more than me in this example is if I spent less than you. How likely is that, really?

"rlol" That's the first time I saw that post by RPB (that you quoted).
We have everything any other city has. What about electricity or water or Emergency services? This reminds me of an old joke.

Several scientists called to God and said they had figured out how He created life and they could do the same thing. They explained how He had taken the raw materials and mixed them together in just the right amounts and then applied an electrical charge to spark the organism to life. God thought for a second and decided this should be interesting, so He asked the scientists to demonstrate.

The scientists brought in some dirt and amino acids and started to mix it all together when God said, "Wait. Get your own dirt."

And speaking of student loans ... he now wants to forgive them after 20 years if not paid in full instead of the 25 it is currently. Why forgive them at all?

Texas Dan Mosby wrote: Second, deep down inside, they FEAR freedom.

Freedom, for some, can be scary. Freedom means that the course of action you select can be either beneficial OR harmful. While most of us accept that challenge, AND the consequences of our actions, more and more citizens seem to be afraid to take that risk, AND to accept the consequences of the choices THEY make.
There you go. They fear freedom and they fear failure. They want the government to be their own personal safety net, yet they oppose the government being the safety net for GM and the banks. Go figure.

The Mad Moderate wrote:I cannot believe what I am reading here, you people of all people should be sticking up for these people who are patriots and love their counter as much as we do. They are fighting for people not corporations like the Tea Baggers are, how have the GOP convinced you people to work agents your own interests. The Citizen United ruling was the final nail in the coffin of our democracy, the corporations are the problem here they have been for a while. Its insane to me that there are people who do not see the wool being pulled over our eyes by the corps and the media. The insults here are the same that were lobbed at the TP before the only difference is in this case they are far more inaccurate.
Unfortunately, I do not think the Mad Moderate is joking. He has seen the light in some respects, but there are still some dark areas in his philosophy.

No one has said they do not have the right to protest. Their message is just so muddled and hysterical. What I have gleaned from the occupiers is that they don't want to pay for anything themselves. They want others to give them what they need. They don't want to pay for the debt they have already incurred. They are no better than someone that signs the papers to buy a house they cannot possibly afford to pay for. If I tell someone that the payments for a house are $1,500 a month and someone only makes $2,000 a month they cannot afford that house. There are many other expenses that will make it impossible to make the house payments, but many seem unable to grasp that concept and say the banks tricked them. When my wife and I were looking for our first house we qualified for a house up to $150,000, but bought a $64,000 house. We could not have afforded a house anywhere near what we were approved for and we knew that. The mean ole bank did not trick us and we never missed a payment and actually paid that house off. We were able to do that because we lived within our means.

If we listened to and went along with these poor unfortunate misled souls, only the police and criminals would have guns and everyone would give 100% of their income to the government and the government would give us what they think we need. Oh, but that would only be the people making over $250,000 to start with. If, after a few years, they didn't think they were being GIVEN enough they would lower than number to $200,000 or even $150,000. However, they would then want themselves exempt from that once they started earning more than $250,000. Funny thing how they are not upset with taking stuff from someone else to redistribute, but get very upset when the prospect of getting what they have earned taken away.

You have heard the parable about if you give a man a fish he can eat that day, but if you teach him to fish he'll be able to eat every day? This is exactly that. If we keep giving people capable of working free stuff they won't learn a thing and become dependent. Does this ring any bells? This is also how drug dealers get their suckers/clients hooked.

I want to make sure I understand your reference to the Flea Party. Are you slamming the Tea Party folks or is this a nickname for the OWS bunch for the parasites that they are?
