Signing such a document was a condition of employment at my company. However, that didn't occur for me until I had been there a few years. When I first started working there they did not have a weapons policy. They even used to have a 30.06 sign posted and it had been removed before I started working there. There still is not 30.06 sign, but they implemented a weapons policy in the handbook and had all current employees sign a similar document that also authorizes vehicle searches. If one didn't sign they would have been shown the door. We really don't know for sure since everyone signed it.WildBill wrote:Obviously, I am not the OP, but I don't think that it would matter either way, but IANAL. I think it's like the fine print on the back of a parking lot receipt that says that they aren't responsible ...The Annoyed Man wrote:To the OP: what would be the consequences of just not signing the document?

Hey Grizz44! Now, you're just taunting me. I call a 5 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.Griz44 wrote:My employer has a similar notation in the employee manual. I carry, they know I carry. It's not a big issue. It's an authorized weapon (by the State of Texas), it's not illegal and it's only dangerous if I need it to be.
Criteria is met. I would suggest keep it well concealed and say nothing. Offer to take your co-workers and supervisor to the range. Spreading knowledge is the best way to rid ourselves of things like this.

Re: New Employee Manual, Just like a opinion
Defintely, do not talk about it or ask for authorization. It's not a 100% certainty that you will be told you cannot, but the chances of becoming authorized by your employer are extremely remote. That is something that could take time and getting close to those who would make that call to determine what their position is and if they would grant you authorization.
Since they haven't specified who is to give the authorization and as a CHL I am authorized by the state of Texas I would, at the very least, keep my weapon in my vehicle and seriously consider going ahead and carrying here if they were my employer.
