Re: Church Carry - Incorrect information from CHL instructor
Given that it was in the vehicle, I can't argue the fact that had someone not broken into the vehicle it would not have been stolen. However, I also can't ignore the fact that it could not have been stolen if it were not in the vehicle to begin with.

Re: Church Carry - Incorrect information from CHL instructor
You are correct, except that the only reason the gun was stolen is because of the incorrect information. I will also concede that it is our responsibility to read the statutes, but there will always be people that think the instructors always right. If the correct information had been given the gun would have been in its holster on the man's hip and not in the vehicle. If he were going to a place were it was forbidden to carry then it would have been his own choice to bring it at all knowing he was going to have to leave it in the vehicle. I know he will never recover anything from the instructor, but if this were me I would certainly lay the guilt trip on him for giving out incorrect information that directly lead to me leaving my gun in my vehicle.Tightwad wrote:I would argue that his gun was stolen as a result of his failure to secure it. What if he had been going into a courthouse? He would have the same chance of losing it in a vehicle break-in. The instructor not being correct is a separate issue in my opinion.C-dub wrote:That's a real shame. I know he won't be able to recover anything from this "instructor", but he can sure let him know that his gun was stolen from his vehicle as a result of his misinformation. Lay a guilt trip on him if that's possible. Maybe, just maybe, he'll start teaching the truth so no one else will fall victim to his ignorance.

Re: Church Carry - Incorrect information from CHL instructor
If that situation were to arise, where an instructor fails to see that they are giving out incorrect information, what are we to do? How likely is it that this incorrect information would be a question on the written exam that the entire class could potentially answer incorrectly because of the instructors poor instruction?

Re: Church Carry - Incorrect information from CHL instructor
This is also an excellent way to handle this possibility, but there is the chance that the instructor will still not see the mistake. There are people I work with that either cannot or refuse to see some of their simplest mistakes even when several other people have tried to point it out to them.KC5AV wrote:Also, it's probably best to speak to an instructor one-on-one during a break if you think they've supplied misinformation.

Re: Church Carry - Incorrect information from CHL instructor
I would certainly question an instructor's misinformation, but try to do it in a non-threatening way. I wouldn't flat out tell them they are wrong. I would point out the statute incorrectly interpreted and ask them how they are able to interpret that the way they did.
