Re: Range Report 11/02/2009...new gun (Ruger LCP)

I bought an LCP earlier this year. My buddy got the Bersa. While the Bersa is a better fit in the hand, it is much larger and heavier and not as easy to just drop in a pocket. I really had a hard time with the LCP. I am 6'6" and have larger hands to go with that :). The LCP was really beating up my trigger finger because of the sharp angle of my finger at the break point. The first time out with it, I shot it first and it ruined the rest of my range day. I was shaken and could not shoot my G19 as well due to the beating I took. I decided to do some research and added some things to the gun to see if it helped.

I added a rubber grip and the mag extension as well as put nightsighter dots on the sights as they are hard to see. That really made a big difference. While it will not be a gun that I regularly run a box through at the range, it is a great carry gun for grab and go concealment. I would have no issues defending myself with it and I am convinced it would be an ample determent under most circumstances. I will add that I have had no FTF/FTE issues with the gun with various ammo. It is a reliable gun.

Back to the Bersa. My buddy had FTE issues with his Bersa from day one. He is considering not using it for carry since he cannot develop confidence with the gun. Recently he disassembled the mag and it was pretty cruddy. So, he cleaned them up real good. I am curious if that will fix his issue. We tend to forget that the Mag is as critical a component to the gun to operate properly. I am going to start cleaning my mags regularly.
