Re: Shipping Handgun to Myself in Another State?

I fly with a gun in checked baggage at least a dozen times a year. It's easy. That said, there are some cities/airports I would avoid with a pistol, like DC, NYC and Chicago, but I would also avoid those cities with a pistol locked in the trunk of my car. I change planes in Chicago, but if my bag r...

Re: Shipping Handgun to Myself in Another State?

Looks like you're good driving back as long as you avoid IL. Yup, I checked that some time ago. It will not be the route that the folks have used for 30 years, but being I'm the one driving, I guess they'll live with "IL avoidance"! Or, if it keeps peace in the car, I'll put it in the tru...

Shipping Handgun to Myself in Another State?

I am confused by the variety of answers I see to my question all over the net. Here's the question: I am flying to MI to drive my folks back to TX. I would prefer not to deal with the airline hassle to check my carry gun when I fly there. I have heard I can ship my handgun to myself c/o another indi...

Re: Recent Application Approved Individuals (past week or so)

You get up at 3am to check your status??? Wow, that is realllllllll dedication! Well, they had returned a call a few days earlier (a week actually) to tell me it was approved and at the printing stage. So I was checking the web at all hours to see when it would actually show "Approved&qu...

Re: Recent Application Approved Individuals (past week or so)

Gads! Overnight delivery! Now that's what I call service! Super congrats! :thewave Well, remember, I'm in Austin and so is DPS. Also, the status could have changed quite a few hours before I saw it or it really being updated on the website. But, I was impressed and also am very pleased to be carryi...

Re: Recent Application Approved Individuals (past week or so)

My on-line status changed to "Approved" approx 3:00 am Thursday morning. I had the plastic in my mail box Friday at 9:30 am. I carry a Kahr P9 in a Crossbreed SuperTuck and a S&W 642 .38SPL+P in a Nemesis or Uncle Mike's. One or both at all times, it will just depend how I'm dressed, I...

Re: June 2009 Applications

Well, plastic license in mail this morning, so I loaded up the P9, stuck it into the Crossbreed Super Tuck, then took the S&W642 in the Uncle Mikes for the pocket and headed to Wally World. Spent about an hour there (no ammo), looked around Academy another hour and then spent an hour plus at Tex...

Re: WTB - First 1911

To keep peace in the marriage, I'm looking at the lower end.

I know what it will cost for a new, lower-end unit; like a RIA Tactical for about $470 delivered ($430 + shipping + FFL).
But thought I might see what was out there in a used (but perhaps higher quality) gun in the same price neighborhood.

WTB - First 1911

Wanting to buy my first 1911. Open to considering different brands and models, full-size only (not for carry). Must be in very good condition. I'm in Austin and willing to drive a bit for the right gun. So, if you need $$ or are just thinning the collection, please let me know what you have. Thanks,

Re: June 2009 Applications

Update: I was just told by a friend who works at DPS that the website status does not change from "Processing" until the license has actually been mailed to the CHL licensee. So, I won't begin to look for the license until I see that change to the website. Mine, then, is in more of an &quo...

Re: June 2009 Applications

Well, I have been waiting for 94 days, rubbing my fingers raw on the keyboard checking status, speaking to more than one individual at the DPS to clarify my wait and their "reviewing, but ..... Just got off the phone with a woman there who says my application (even though the website still show...

Re: June 2009 Applications

They received my packet on June 11th and I went to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active" yesterday. I live in Harris county, which is supposed to be the biggest "waiting" offender of all the counties. It may be that they are finally getting caught up. Ho...
