Actually he’s counting on doing this via executive action without CongressTreyHouston wrote:strogg wrote:He's a populist. Plain and simple. I don't agree with much of anything he spewed out today. On exception is: no gun reform will pass if national reciprocity is still in the bill. Removing schools from the GFZ will also unlikely pass if it's in the bill. At least that's something we can cling to. If those make it into the gun reform thing, it will be huge leverage against the bad provisions, such as fix-NICS (which is a whole lotta nothing), 21-year age limit (ehhh... that will be problematic), and the bumpstock thing (that can be devastating if the Dems get to word it). I can't imagine what will become of any sort of bill at this point. Time to play political chess.imkopaka wrote:RicoTX wrote:Yeah I caught that too in reference to mental health.Syntyr wrote:Trump may just be playing chess with the Rats but this kind of talk makes me really uneasy!!!
“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.
This stuff right here is why I was so against voting for Trump. I still did it because the alternative was the Hildabeest, but I suspected from the start that his allegiance was too easily swayed. He flipped between Democrat, Republican, and Independent so many times over the past few decades that I asserted we couldn't trust him to remain conservative once he was in office. The proof is in the orange pudding.
Is this simply a play because he knows nothing will pass anyways? Is this a truck to keep eyes off DACA?

The more he talks, the worse it gets. And the NRA is giving him a free pass. He is betraying gun owners here. They should be up in arms over this. Trump stood before the NRA during the campaign swearing to not only protect but promote the 2nd AmendmentRicoTX wrote:Did I just hear Trump correctly? He wants to remove the conceal carry reciprocity from the background bill and make it on its own? He says the bill won't pass with it in.
Rep. Rutherford...require buyers to have a permit to buy a gun from anyone...even private sales.
Trump...that's a good idea...then be tough on the black market. Trump...be very strong on background checks.
Trump wants the age at 21 for any gun.
We need to make sure our Reps here from us!
On a good note: Trump did say do away with gun free zones.
I don't get a good feeling from this...

The GOP elites (swamp...which Trump sounds like he is emersing himself in) need to quit taking us for granted. That is the mistake they made in the 2000s under the Bush regime and why they lost the house, senate and white house and gave rise to tge Tea Party.EastTexasRancher wrote:So, you're going to sit on the sidelines and not vote for the more conservative/constitutional choice over a POSSIBLE BUT AS OF YET UNDEFINED bump stock ban?BBYC wrote:If I don't need a bumpstock then I don't need 30 round magazines. Whatever. They can vote for unconstitutional laws but nobody needs to vote for them in November.RicoTX wrote:Agree 100%!Richbirdhunter wrote:Once you give a dog a bone, he wants another bone.
Why give up anything. What's next? 20 or 30 round mags?
Are some of us willing to give those up too?
Because I'm not...and won't.
Man, I just don't get it. I really don't. Just hand over both houses in November already......
As for the NRA, I fully plan to renew my membership, but for anybody to act like they are God’s gift to the second amendment and everybody else needs to just shut up, get in line with the republican party and send in money sounds very John Sununnu-Karl Rove-Lindsey Graham like.

Most of what I'm hearing here amounts to excuse making, compromising with the enemy, political double talk and defensiveness (even to the point of deleting dissenting comments).
We are acting like we are in the minority and are barely hanging on and are in the worst time every in terms of gun rights. The Republicans (the supposed conservative party) is in power in all three branches. The NRA took on Obama over everything from Clinton Assault Weapon ban to high capacity magazines to green tipped ammo).
I'm not particularly interested in getting a bump stock. (I'd rather have a real machine gun). Bump firing is fun to do sometimes, but I don't really need a device to do it. BUT nobody has to "show me" why they "need" one anymore than I need to provide a reson why I "need" an AR15. It's a principle and our RTKBA is not negotiable. But here is a reason: You need one because the bad guys say you don't.
As for these recent shootings, shootings have been going on sicne Columbine and we have resisted this gun grabbing hysteria from Clinton to Obama with success. Most people in America know guns aren't the issue or the problem that's why the bad guys are losing.

Can it be?: We may lose more gun rights under Trump than Obama?
Trump again today stressed wanting to ban bump stocks.
The NRA, last week I believe, decided to stay silent on the issue for now until they see what develops.
The NRA and Republicans dug in and fought hard against Obama and defeated all his attempts to violate our rights. But now Trump and Sessions are proposing banning bump stocks and raising age limits and even other Republicans such as Gov. Rick Scott caving to this.
So we have more to fear from Republicans when they are in charge than we do from Democrats when they are in charge?
I don't get it.
