[quote="lonewolf"]I wouldn't mind being surprised by my status not changing and getting my license in the mail. I would mind being surprised by getting a letter for more information and then seeing the "Detailed Letter" sent status a week later......

What...I going to check the mail today...seamusTX wrote:No one knows how or when the web site is updated. It is supposed to say "Application Complete-license issued" around the time DPS mails the license. However, sometimes it is never updated and still says "Processing application" when the recipient finds the license in his mailbox.
DPS outsources manufacturing of licenses.
BTW, last I heard the license came in a white #9 envelope with a DPS return address.

It's on the way...almost just waiting on those printing people...wickedbrew wrote:Spoke with DPSCHL today, said that my "docs are out for printing" and that my license will be issued when the docs come back. Anyone have the foggiest idea what this means?
Given, it sounds better than "waiting on the background check to come back" but is even more confusing.
I am thinking about starting the![]()

karder wrote:Hi all. Just wanted to let you guys know that I got my plastic yesterday! Today I am carrying (IWB colt commander .45). The only positive side to the wait is that I had plenty of time to experiment with my concealment techniques. For all you guys who are waiting... hang in there. I should have been an easy bkg check as I have lived in the same home for 10 years and worked at the same employer for 18 years. No previous troubles with the law or the tax man. Even with that it was 141 days from the day I dropped my packet off at the post office until the postman dropped my license in my mailbox. Try to be patient, as the licenses do show up... eventually. There is lots of good content on this site, so I intend to hang around and learn from the veterans here. Good luck to you guys.
Congrats...

lonewolf wrote:I take most everything in stride. Have to. After all, you can't fight the weather, it just is....Dealing with government bureaucracies is much the same. When they want it, they want it NOW. When you want it, you have to wait until its convenient for someone. I can't stand to go to any government office for anything. My tax dollars at work. Even though I am not at work, losing money.
It's like having a doctor's appointment at 10 a.m. and not being seen until 11 a.m. I get there at 9:30 hoping to minimize the wait, but that is to no avail. Of course, if I show up 10 minutes late, they have let someone else in, cancelled my appointment, and charged me for the cancellation. There are never any excuses, never any apologies. If any company I worked for operated that way, they would be out of business. With good reason.
Both of my brothers live in Houston, and did well enough through the hurricane. One had power back inside of four hours, the other within two weeks. No serious damage. The company I worked for at the time sent MANY generators down there from all our locations to augment power for critical usage. I can see Galveston County having troubles, but Harris County has no excuses for the apparent delays. There are many good folks down there without jobs that can qualify to pull background checks and need a job. They don't want a lot of money, just a little more than unemployment pays and the knowledge they have a job and are contributing to society and providing for their families. Get rid of two present government employees that spend all their time googling on the internet or on the cell phone with their friends/family and they could afford to hire 5 or 6 good, productive hourly workers.
Just my $.02

Maybe I should apply at DPS...Doh what am I thinking...I will have to wait for another BG check...But if hired at least I will come up with better excuses...ie the printer is on strike, our power is off, your application is unreadable as I don't know how to read, we can only approve you after you go insane, What application, What's a CHL?, I will get back to after I look into this, I would be upset to...G34 Bingo...oh am sorry what were you saying...

Sorry to hear about it...Be safe...dwdog wrote:I am now on day 130(ish) waiting on my CHL, but that's not what my concern is right now, I left town for a funeral. Came home, my bathroom window busted out, front door unlocked, gun safe and 5 firearms gone!!!!! One 12 guage, one AR-15(.223), one 243, one .38 special, and one .40cal. I had all the serial numbers in my wallet, so I was able to give those to the police. I believe someone has been watching me, knew I had guns, and knew I was leaving town. I know it was more than one person, because my safe was very heavy. Those suckers had better be caught. Although, I am sure I will never see those guns again. If I do, I don't know if I would want a gun back that was used in a robbery or a murder. Chances are, my AR-15 is probably headed to Mexico. Now I don't feel safe in my own home, which I first thought was a good neighborhood. I am mad about my guns being stolen, but what bothers me the most, is that I am a husband and father, and some strangers forced their way into my home. Now, I just want justice to be served. Any information, please contact Texas City PD. Thank you.
