It seems unlikely that Houston PD would be working the show. Are you sure it wasn't Harris Co. SO or another agency?

Houston Police Officers Union president Ray Hunt said the officers were prevented from carrying out these duties because they violate department policies regarding off-duty jobs. The gun show’s rules are that people can’t bring a concealed handgun into the show, but state law allows patrons to do so. That makes the show’s decision a house rule, he said, and HPD policy prohibits its officers from enforcing house rules.

Yea, it was HPD. HCSO and Constables wear black uniforms and HPD wears Blue. I am from Houston, and have been a Paramedic running 911 in the area for a long time so I know what they look like. I started to go up to them and ask about the 30:06 signs and why they were there, but I figured that was a good way to get asked to leave. What was interesting were several dealers openly carrying. One was a CHL Instructor selling his classes. No badges showing and most were WAY to old to be active Police. One dealer had an AR-15 around his neck with a magazine in the gun. I'd be interested to know under what basis the guys were openly carrying. (Maybe that is their "business" location)

Re: GRB Gun Show

Just got home from the gun show. There are 4 different events going on at the Convention Center...a fishing show, Corvette Show, Dinosaur show and the Gun show. There is also an outdoor festival across the street. I mention this because there is NO parking. I parked about a mile away and paid $15 to do it. There is major road constrution all around the GRB and many streets are blocked. You might want to consider waiting until the next show or wait until it is at Reliant.

I havent been to a show in about 9 months and all I can say is OMG what a sticker shock!! They had Keltec Sub 2000 for $999. The Keltec KSG was $2600. Lots of AR platforms and very pricey. They did have the DPMS Oracle Ar-15 in .223 for $899. Ammo was plentiful and very expensive. A 525 brick of .22LR was $139. A standard Ruger 10-22 was $450.
I think that will be the last gun show I will go to for a while.
