Being able to criticize Bonnen and others like him won't win him over, but it might be able to get others to oppose him or at least stop supporting him.

Anyone who remotely understands the concept of “winning hearts and minds” sees Facebook for the incredibly important cyber battlefield that it is.
Just because you are old and don’t understand it, doesn’t make it horrible.
Carry on yelling at clouds...

It's funny how many on the right will just cede an entire battle space to the left, instead of fighting on all fronts. It's little wonder our rights are in such danger.

You lose all the battles you don't fight. This maybe a minor thing but if Bonnen keeps the page public to show off his "accomplishment" but has no criticism there then it maintains the status quo.Bitter Clinger wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 4:47 pmSo all Bonnen has to do is take his page private and there goes the hissy fit lawsuit. And there would be no court costs if there was no lawsuit to begin with.O.F.Fascist wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 4:21 pm There has been a similar ruling in the 5th circuit.

“Official censorship based on a state actor’s subjective judgment that the content of protected speech is offensive or inappropriate is viewpoint discrimination,” the opinion said, noting the court was assuming in its ruling that the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page was a public forum and subject to First Amendment protection.
And who cares about Facebook anyway? Only those who live in their parents basements.
Spend the effort defeating Bonnen next election.
If critics can post on his page maybe some of his constituents will open thier eyes to the reality of his liberalism.
Even if he takes the page down altogether that is still a win as he would get less of his propaganda out.
The culture war is fought on multiple fronts. The Internet and memes have power when they motivate people to out and take action. At the least this action will cost Bonnen some money and hassle.

By picking and choosing which members of the public are heard from on a public page they continue to lie by controlling the narrative.

My title says "blocking critics on Facebook," while Facebook does have its own issues they were not the party in the wrong in this instance. I'm a citizen of the state of Texas so I do have skin in the game when it comes to holding our government accountable.C-dub wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 1:32 pmYour own title says FACEBOOK. Therefore, I'm assuming this was not a government page with a .gov extension. Do you have any skin in this game? Are you one of the group that was banned?O.F.Fascist wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 1:27 pmThe part he missed is that in this instance it is a government employee who is silencing speech on a public page, not Facebook. Its one thing if a person keeps a private personal page, but it is another when a government employee is utilizing a public page in which they interact with the public.Bitter Clinger wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 1:12 pmGlad to know not everyone was asleep during Civics class!C-dub wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 12:52 pmThat is interesting. Why do you think this isn't a serious issue? There have been court rulings on this before. When people with government paychecks work to limit our rights, I support anyone pushing back against them on any front.
However, I do fail to understand how being unfriended on FB is lawsuit worthy. The two guys or group are not being fined or jailed or in other way prohibited from spreading their message. They're just not being allowed to do it on this FB page. Just as Bitter Clinger noted, he wasn't even banned by FB. Which, BTW, also would not be an infringement of their First Amendment rights. FB is a private company. They can ban or control whatever they want on their platform. Maybe if Pocahontas Warren gets her way FB will become a public utility or something and then these guys will have a leg to stand on. Personally, I think this lawsuit is ridiculous and childish, but that's just me. Or perhaps not.

Re: Speaker Bonnen sued in Federal Court for 1st amendment violations, blocking critics on Facebook
Individuals have been blocked from posting, myself as well. My post also was not vulgar or threatening but it was deleted and I was blocked from posting. It is interesting that Bonnen (or his people) left up some posts that were but deleted people merely expressing dissent; it seems they want to paint any criticism of him as being a small "fringe" minority. The issue is that as a government employee he is using Facebook as work platforms so that opens it up to be a place where he can be criticised at.Bitter Clinger wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 12:40 pmHe was not banned by Facebook.
