Re: Range Report 11/02/2009...new gun (Ruger LCP)

I don't think I have said that she 'likes' it she is still getting used to it. She likes that it is easy to conceal, and she thinks it is more comfortable to shoot now that the Hogue grip is on it, but you are right, it kicks like a mule. She handles it pretty well but she doesn't enjoy shooting it at the range. For her it is a gun that she trusts to fire, is easy to conceal and it matches her outfit! :biggrinjester: :smilelol5:

It is her backup gun in case someone tries to steal her pocket book...which has her G19 in it! She told me one time she only needs Elsie to get her Glock back! "rlol" I love that woman!

Thanks for the forum info Matrix. I'll be doing some reading over there . :thumbs2:
I am not knocking the Ruger, it was a punchy little pistol and so easy to conceal that it makes it a great little CC pistol. It is just that I have long skinny fingers and I personally found it hard to shoot with the long trigger pull. Maybe I need to adjust what part of my finger I place on the trigger?

Matrix: I have been reading that forum in stealth mode for a day or so now and it is pretty interesting and informative. Thanks :thumbs2:

Range Report 11/02/2009...new gun (Ruger LCP)

Today was the first trip to the range (Marksmen Indoor Range) with my wife and her new gun (Ruger LCP).

The range itself was not very busy with only 4 other peoples there shooting. We took only 4 guns with us on this visit (Ruger LCP, Glock 30SF, Springfield XD9, Glock 19 ) and the 22 Conversion kit we took but didn't use.

My wife's new pistol ran pretty well. It had one FTF on the second shell, but ran flawlessly after that and we fed 70 through it. It was pretty interesting in that the same ammunition jams in the Bersa pretty frequently and I was begining to think it was the ammo that was causing it, but this kind of disproves that.

We had already replaced the flat floorplate on the magazine with the factory extension floorplate because it felt better in the hand for my wife. Her first few shots were pretty spread (but still well within the kill zone at 3 yards) but this was really to be expected with a new gun especially given the extremely long trigger pull. She got used to it reasonably quickly but still wasn't too happy with the protracted trigger pull. When I tried the gun I quickly decided it wasn't the gun for me "rlol" It is way too small for my long fingers. I had to practically make a fist to get the gun to bang.

While my wife was getting used to her new gun I decided to shoot the XD9. (not my usual range gun but last time I shot it I was impressed with it) We still consider this gun to be one of the most accurate guns in our arsenal.

I have been pulling slightly low left (anticipating the recoils) in the last few visits to the range and so I set the target up at 3 yards and let rip with 20 to see if I would still do it.......but I guess not! :smilelol5:

I sent the new target back to 7 yards and ran 30 more through the XD9 and was pleased with the results of that too.

Happy with that gun I ran 30 rounds through the G30 at the back of the range and that was interesting. Mostly the group was pretty good but I did have a fly away which intrigues me as I don't think it was a 45 hole!..maybe it was one from the next lane?...yeah that must be it! "rlol"

I ran about 100 rounds in total through the G30 and I really love that gun.

I stuck a laser onto the G19 but for some reason that caused me to shoot very low, even at 7 yards. I think I prefer to use the regular sights for that.

After the range we went ammo hunting...no joy! and then we went to The Arms Room and bought a spare mag for the LCP and a couple of longer finger extensions floorplates. That certainly helps with the feel of the gun. We would really like to reduce the trigger length but I am not sure that is possible with a DA pistol.

Interesting snippet was how hard it was to get used to the fact that when the mag is empty the gun doesn't return to slide lock. Amazing how iritating that gets! :smilelol5: "rlol"

All in all a good outing and a great learning curve. I learned never to carry that Ruger and my wife learned that she has that gun all to herself. :fire "rlol"
