The safe is finally in and bolted to the slab. Turns out the appliance dolly worked the best along with a few friends( well maybe not anymore).
I want to thank everyone on the forum for their advice.
Now to fill it up, have to go as Mrs FL450 is waiting to regain some closet space.

Re: Question about Winchester safe at Academy (UPDATE)
I only have to move it 10 feet, The pipe rolling idea was my back up to the pallet jack.
I am going to try the jack first because once I unbolt it from the pallet I wont be able to get it back on.

Re: Question about Winchester safe at Academy (UPDATE)
Good question; 1/2 half of my garage is enclosed into a room that the safe is going into that is airconditioned and carpeted, it has a 2 foot stepup to the entry to the utility room. The step up is an inch or so lower than the base of the safe on the pallet so the plan is to place the safe in front of this step up, unbolt it from the pallet and slide it off the pallet onto the stepup. At least thats the plan.

Re: Question about Winchester safe at Academy (UPDATE)
I thought about renting a pallet Jack. We unloaded it off the truck ok.
I bave the area prepped. The safe is on a pallet so if I can jack it on the narrow side I can fit it thru the door.

Re: Question about Winchester safe at Academy (UPDATE)
After all the great feedback from this group I was armed with all the information to d further research on what features I needed to look for to make an informed decision. (Gauge, bolts, welds, locking mechanism etc.) I was set on saving the money to buy once only and then it happened. The Academy circular arrived this afternoon and had a special buy on the Liberty Safe, Centurion Deluxe 30 long gun. 59x36x25, 12 gauge, 11 bolt 75 min fire rating for 699. This couldn't have come at a better time as I just spent 700 dollars on my 2 senior HS girls for 3 dual credit courses and books. Even though this is a made in China model and not the quality I was originally set on the great buy allowed me to purchase now rather than later so I can secure my guns and ammo out of reach from the grand kids since we have them during the week since one of my daughters started teaching her first year of school this year.
Thanks to all for the feedback. Anyone want to volunteer to help unload from the truck and set up? I am not sure I will have any friends left after this.

Re: Question about Winchester safe at Academy
I am seeing that, I thought deciding on parts to build my first AR was tough only to find Optics even more of a challange and now gun safe's.C-dub wrote:Shopping for a gun safe, in my opinion, is a lot like shopping for your first AR. There are so many brands and options and the quality and price range is huge. However, when you break it down it still ends up being a personal preference to satisfy your needs. Good luck on your quest.

Re: Question about Winchester safe at Academy
never thought about that, I will check it out.MechAg94 wrote:You might also try a Gun Safe dealer like Lonestar Gun Safe. They have a lot more options including quite a few safes that are better. Not sure how competitive they would be on price though. They have a bunch in their store. I am not sure what other options there are like that.

Re: Question about Winchester safe at Academy
The fire ratings are different due to extra panels of fireboard in the interior walls...that's where the difference in the internal measurements comes from: 1/2 " in the top, 4.25" in the front door and back wall, 4.25" in side walls[/quote]talltex wrote:DocV wrote:Academy Sports + Outdoors: -Weight 520lbs -Internal height: 56in -Internal Depth (in.):11.75 -Internal Width (in.):25 -Fire Protection Rating:60 minutes up to 1,400° -External Width (in.):28
Tractor Supply Co. -Weight 507lbs -Inner height: 55.5 in -Inner Length - 16 in -Inner Width - 27-1/4 in. -Fire Resistant to 30 minutes @ 1,400° F -Exterior Width - 30 in.
Thank You "Talltex" for the explination on why the differant dimensions.

Re: Question about Winchester safe at Academy
I want to thank everyone or the feedback.
I have a few rifles/shotguns but need the room for pistols and ammo as well.
My space is somwhat limited so I will have to make some compromises.
Now that I am armed with great feedback and suggestions from your responses I have some homework to do.
What other things do I need to look at when considering a safe??

Re: Question about Winchester safe at Academy
I noticed the one in your link showed a fire rating of 1400 degrees for 30 minutes and Academy advertised 1400 degrees for 1 hour. Not sure of the differance.texasparamedic wrote:I bought one from Tractor Supply for $700. Save a hundred.

Question about Winchester safe at Academy (UPDATE)
I am looking for A safe. Academy has a Winchester 24 gun safe (ASO-19-11) fire rated at 1400 degrees for 60 minutes for 800 dollars.
Is this a good value or can I do better in the sub 1000 dollar catagory including delivery.
