Depending on your driving skill, road and traffic conditions, and the relative capabilities of your vehicle and the pursuer's, stopping can be a pretty good idea; wait for the bozo to get even with your back bumper, and take off hard while he's still got to get back to his vehicle, get in, and put it in gear. A few seconds of you moving while he's stopped can be a big advantage in getting far enough ahead to lose him.

Not something I'd want to try in daytime traffic, but I've done it before on country roads before cell phones became popular. Living in a college town and working night shifts, it wasn't uncommon to happen on a bunch of drunks looking for a fight any way they could get one. Of course, if I could get them onto county roads, I could leave them in a field pretty much every time, and report the wreck before they could walk to town and find another drunk to pull them out of the fence.
