Re: April 2009 Applications
The wait is over. Didn't expect it, but my plastic arrived in the mail on July 3rd. The total time from application submittal to actually receiving the CHL was 90 days by my count. I live in Nueces County if anyone was wondering. During the whole process, I only contacted DPS once to check on the status of my application and that was Friday (Jul 2nd). After the conversation with the DPS Customer Service Rep, I was under the impression my CHL was being sent to the printer and would be mailed in approximately 2 weeks according to the information provided. But it must have been mailed several days prior to that. My status actually changed to Application Complete - Certificate Issued when I checked this morning ( July 4th). A little strange to have received the CHL before the status changed on-line. Obviously the status is not always updated the way you would have expected it to. But, no complaints from me. Hopefully this information might be of so help to the rest of the April Forum. Good luck and I hope the wait for the rest of you are not long.

Re: April 2009 Applications
Great News Finally. My CHL application has been approved. Called DPS and talked to a very courteous customer service rep and she stated my CHL was in printing and should be mailed in 2 weeks. That makes it 88 days by my count. Looking like some of the April apps are starting to finalize.

Re: April 2009 Applications
I was born overseas while my dad was serving in the Army. Am I to expect a delay while DPS requests a copy of my Birth Certificate from the State Dept or wherever they get it from? I included a copy of my current U.S. Passport as proof of citizenship with my app. Will this suffice for the Birth Certificate? Just curious.

Re: April 2009 Applications
My app has gone to the next step to "Processing Application" as of May 16th. Took a while but at least its progressing. Looks like DPS are now working on the April applications.

Re: April 2009 Applications
Has anyone in the April forum beginning to see a status change of their application (i.e. "Packet Mailed to Applicant" to "Processing Application")? Just curious....

Re: April 2009 Applications
I e-mailed CHL regarding the receipt of my app since I failed to send it certified receipt, and was told it was probably going through the process to verify completeness before they update the system to "Processing". That didn't tell me they actually received it however. Anyway, after reading information on these forums, it appears it takes approximately 3-4 weeks before the system updates to reflect a status other than the dreaded "Packet Mailed to Applicant".

Re: April 2009 Applications
I'm sure curious exactly how long this wait will be. I completed my application on-line back in February and received my PIN number approximately 2 weeks later. The instructor warned us that the wait could be as long as 180 days because of the tremendous backlog. I guess we're powerless and will just have to deal with the process barring their are no errors with the paperwork. The site still states "Packet Mailed to Applicant". We were told by the instructor to send our applications by First Class Mail. I now wish I would have sent it Certified Return Receipt because I couldn't tell you honestly DPS has received my paperwork as of this date. I sent an e-mail to DPS several days ago requesting receipt confirmation, but have not received a reply. So the wait is on.......
