Re: Background checks looking like the "compromise"

Here's another problem with universal NICS checks. ONLY FFLs can do them. So the next step in the gun control gameplan is to continue making FFL an unpleasant, expensive license to have - drive the coffee table FFLs out of business first, then the mom & pop LGS. Why do you think Biden's task force wanted to talk to Wal Mart so much? Hey Wally, support us and in a few years you'll be the only FFL in town and everyone who wants a gun will have to pay you - even if they don't buy it from you.

ONLY way I could accept universal background checks is with exceptions for CHL, LEO, and a broadening of WHO can do the NICS checks ... force each state's top LE Agency to do them for free (or small fee) at any state police location in that state ... and set strict time limits like the 60-day shall issue Texas CHL rule

I've seen four different TV news reports at Houston areas gun shops and shooting ranges. Every single one of the business owners (obviously FFLs) support a requirement for background checks on all private transactions. Each claimed it was a matter of "public safety" but that was a lie. It's all about money.
This part I get, and just assumed anyway.

These are people who not only own guns, but were out shooting them at the time they were interviewed.
This part I honestly don't understand. Is it because they're all law-abiding and so it won't affect them? Reminds me of: "First they came for the ..." mentality

Later, when they've passed another law giving them permission to check on your guns - you know, to make sure they're stored safely ... for the kids you know - they'll check that each gun you have was in fact "released" to you via the NICS ... if you own a gun that doesn't have a prior NICS hit, then obviously your obtained it illegally, bypassing the background check system. Here are your new bracelets ... we'll take ALL of your guns now, you won't "need" them where you're going

Background checks looking like the "compromise"

Some news sites this morning are reporting that NRA President has "accepted" background checks
http://news.yahoo.com/nra-chief-says-gr ... itics.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not quite what he said, see full interview here (starting roughly between 1:30 and 2:00
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505263_162- ... wont-work/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am getting the sense that an end to private sales is the "compromise" all gun owners/buyers will force forced to accept.

I for one DO NOT accept this (I used to believe in this until I started thinking through the ramifications of this - the so-called "long game" of gun control).
