If you only want the gun for hunting/targets then try a Browning BPS - bottom ejection. I owned one for a few years, great guns. Traded it because I wanted a dual-purpose home defense/clays gun with interchangeable barrels - and a short Browning barrel is a $300 accessory. The guns themselves ain't cheap either - $600 or so new, can be found for $300-$400 used. They are extremely well built as any Browning product.

But for a lefty, the bottom eject would seem to be a very nice feature. Don't know any other pump gun that has this. Remington, Mossberg, Benelli etc are all right-side eject - right into your face if you're a lefty.

Re: Remington 870 or 1100?

Neither. Get a Mossberg 500. If using with a standard stock and not a pistol-grip stock (which I assume you would be for intended uses you listed) the safety located on the tang of a Mossy is superior to the safety located on the trigger guard of a Remmy.

Of course, Mossy 500 vs. Remmy 870 is like starting a Glock vs. 1911 debate - I'm sure someone will strongly disagree .... *FLAME RESISTANT SUIT: ON*

better yet, if strictly a hunting/target shooting use, get a Benelli.
