Question:

One of Mossburg's big marketing plugs is that its models were the only shotguns to pass some US Military endurance test. I'd always heard the model that passed the test was the 590. But then others have claimed it was the 500. From what I can tell from looking and talking to a few folks, the main difference between the two is some polymer parts in the trigger assembly, safety and other areas on the 500 that are all metal on the 590. Other than that, same gun, right?

So which gun actually passed the endurance test? And is there any other major difference between 500 and 590?
