Re: And don't talk to Customs & Border Patrol, either!
Reading that, I can say two things, based on my own (admittedly limited) knowledge and experience: 1) The writer of that article was, indeed, right. To my understanding, the officers WERE wrong in what they were doing. Customs officers at ports of entry can look through bags (import/export/smuggling...

Re: H & K USP 45 What's the verdict on this firearm?
I had one. I bought it used, worn, beat-up, but it was reliable. I sold it a while later as it had the ergonomics of a brick and a horrible trigger. That being said, ALL of the HKs I've fired had horrible triggers. I've also never found one that was unreliable / jammed, without some outside source f...

Re: need some help
That looks like a Model 1893 or 1895 Mauser, most probably chambered in 7x57 Mauser. It does look sporterized, but the rear sight leaf indicates it still has the original barrel. The 1893 and 1895 are, if I remember correctly, most easily differentiated by a half-moon cutout on the left side of the ...

Re: fail to feed on my RIA
You know, looking at those pictures, I'm betting you're fine as far as the barrel/chamber goes. You might try a new recoil spring and some different self-defense ammo. But if you had no problems with ball ammo, I'd say you're okay. I use Hornady XTPs, so I've no idea if Hydroshoks feed in my own RIA...

Re: fail to feed on my RIA
The thing is, there's supposed to be a bit of a gap between the frame's feed ramp and the chamber, when the slide is to the rear. If you make them match up, then with the slide closed, you'll actually have the two mis-matched, and provide a "hang-up" point for feeding. The angle also has t...

You might want to look through the online gun auction sites. (Gunbroker, Auction Arms, etc)

Re: Unlicensed open carry in Texas: a proposal
I would be in favor of free open carry. I might not do it myself, when off-duty, but I do like the option (here in NM, it's legal, but rare). I'm of the mind of "maximum freedom, with accompanying responsibility." A person who displays their gun on their hip takes on no more or less respon...

Do we know that she didn't (use her car as a weapon)? And if we don't know she didn't, then if follows she did? Re: Off duty trouble...
I'm gonna reserve judgment here. We don't know what precipitated this incident. From what we're seeing, it's understandable that folks want to hang this cop out to dry (and if what we're seeing is indeed the whole truth, I'd be the first one to bring out the tar and feathers). However... There is su...

Re: AR-15 recommendations
I have a basic DPMS "M-4gery" (Panther Lite 16). It serves quite well for its intended purpose; I have it simply to have a "black rifle." While it has merely simple iron sights (post front, peep rear) and a non-match barrel, it's still quite accurate. It feeds "normal" ...

Re: Hanging pistol on safe inner door?
I have a safe with little peg-holes in the inner door's metal, intended for hanging shelves/cubby-holes. I took those out, and fashioned pistol hangers out of old clothes hangers, the wire type with some sort of nylon coating (to protect the pistols' finish). While it doesn't hold revolvers very wel...

Re: Handcuff's
I'm gonna join in with the "not a good idea" crowd. If you must "restrain" someone, hold him/her at gunpoint. Firstly, in order to properly handcuff someone, you very likely will need two hands (one to hold the cuffs, one to hang onto the arm being cuffed). This means putting you...

Re: Can I carry a Bug legally in Texas?
I have carried as many as five or six (I don't rightly recall), just to see if I could do it. It's doable (and I'm 5'6", 145 lbs!). In Texas, it's also perfectly legal. Here in NM, unfortunately, it's not. :banghead: And per Agency policy, I can't currently carry a backup while on-duty, either....
