+1 on the pocket carry. I keep my S&W 442 J-frame in my right front pocket and can easily forget it's there if I'm not careful. If a revolver is too thick you can look at thinner semi-autos like the LCP and others like it. I don't think you'd have a problem laying on your side with this method.
