Re: How was your fair experience?

It looks like according to the map we went in gate 9. I showed my CHL to the wander who directed me to a supervisor. I told the supervisor I had a CHL and she walked me over the the Dallas PD officer who looked at my CHL and drivers license. He just told me not to go into the Cotton Bowl or the Old Mill Inn and wished me a good time at the fair.

magillapd wrote: Now this is funny. Of course I took the picture posted above that day at the fair. I happened to be a guy that was wearing a gray underarmour type shirt with a glock hat. If that "guy" you saw was with his wife and 2 older ladies, then I'd have to say that you spotted me!! haha. If so, you would have been right had my IWB holster come in on time. I wore my glock hat to at least bring some type of gun to the fair!!!
If that was you, then I passed you while you were standing by the Cotton Bowl near a set of steps. I was wearing a green shirt, khaki pants and my IDPA hat that has the logo with a gun prominently on the front. I nodded to you as I passed. There wasn't anyone else around you at the time.

Re: How was your fair experience?

Saw a number of CHL possibilities yesterday, the two most prominent of which were a guy in a gray Under Armour type shirt with Glock hat and my wife saw a guy in a black t-shirt with an over-large blue Hawaiian shirt with red flowers around the bottom that had only one button around the hips buttoned.

My wife asked a Dallas police sergeant why they're telling people they can't carry in the Old Mill.

He said that the State Fair made the rule and told them to say that. When she explained that it was city property and couldn't be restricted under 30.06, he said he didn't know what 30.06 was but that the state fair is leasing the property so it is private property and they can restrict anyone they want. As his explanation/proof, he said that it is just like Six Flags and that Six Flags doesn't even allow police officers to carry so the State Fair can certainly restrict you from two places if they want.

When she pointed out that the Cotton Bowl was restricted because it was only open during a game and that meant it didn't fall under 30.06 and asked why the Old Mill didn't have a 30.06 sign if it is restricted, he had no clue why a game was different and he said he had no interest in knowing it, either. He said when he retires that he'll have no interest in carrying. The implication was that anyone who carried was seeking out trouble/a wannabee cop. He was getting pretty defensive so she dropped it and thanked him for his time.

Oddly enough, it also lists it's appraised value at only $24,160.
Did a little research and it seems that BPP (business personal property) is appraised as above. BPP is fixtures, equipment, furniture, etc. BPP is NOT real property or "premises". This leads me to believe that Old Mill premises is owned by the City of Dallas and a 30.06 notice oral, or written would be invalid.
You're right. I just found it on the Dallas CAD map and the entire area within the Fair Park boundaries is owned by the City of Dallas. The Old Mill must be leasing the building from the city.

I expected as much. I think it won the creativity award, not necessarily on taste. Now, the fried frito chili pie is what I'm interested in trying :)

Re: How was your fair experience?

I have no knowledge of the Old Mill, except that it's not listed on the texas3006 site. It's possible they're 30.06 posted, or maybe they're 51% though I always thought they were mostly a restaurant. However, the Cotton Bowl would not be off limits as long as it's not during the Texas/OU game. It's owned by the City and the prohibition is against carrying to a collegiate or professional sporting event, not the stadium in which those games are played. Is the Cotton Bowl even open outside of the Texas/OU game day?
