Re: School Zones & Cell Phones
I got pulled over a couple of years ago the week of Thanksgiving. I was passing an elementary school doing the normal speed limit even though the school zone lights were on. He asked me why I was speeding through a school zone, I told him school was out for the holiday, take a look at the parking l...

"This will be a citation stop"
Driving home from doing some fly fishing for trout in southern OK, I get lit up by a Texas State Trooper. First time I wasn't carrying and didn't have any weapons in the car (I know, never leave home without it). He approached the car from the passenger side (busy highway - it was the day after Than...

Re: 1st Contact
If you have a CHL and are not carrying, you can still use the CHL lane. There are a number of congressmen and women that are now applying for their licenses, simply so they can avoid the long lines going into the Capitol building and use the CHL lane. I didn't try to go through the regular line, so ...

1st Contact
Truly uneventful, but it was my 1st contact... Visited the Capitol Building of the Great State of Texas about 2 Saturdays ago. If you weren't aware, they have added a CHL line at all entrances to allow for CHL holders to bypass the metal detectors. Walked right up to the state trooper, presented my ...

Oklahoma Game Warden
I went to the Blue River in southern Oklahoma to do some fly fishing today. Great place for any fellow fly fishing fans out there. Game Warden came by checking licenses. I goofed big time and had left it in my check bag in the car after a quick stop for lunch. The law is clear that you have to have ...

Re: Thanks a LOT. No, really. THANKS.
Sounds like a great "parenting moment" was missed. If this family is that sensitive to bumper stickers and live in California, they could never leave their house without having major anxiety attacks. Southern California in particular is literally crammed with cars and their drivers hold ve...

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
I went to the fair yesterday. As we were getting ready to leave the house, I told my wife, "I'm going to be carrying, so there might be something I have to do when we pass through security, just to let you know". She said "no problem, just keep us safe". After parking in the &quo...

Re: Opinions on carrying .22LR
Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate all the comments, insights and voices of experience. The Taurus will now take the daily carry spot. I have a very comfortable tuckable IWB holster that conceals it pretty well. It's a little difficult, not because of the concealment, but because my wa...

Opinions on carrying .22LR
I have a couple of choices when I get ready to holster for the day. My Taurus Millenium PT111 9mm and an AMT Backup .380. I also have a Walther P22 that is light and easy to conceal. Any thoughts on carrying a .22 as your primary carry? Concerns (aside from the obvious flight distances and stopping ...

Re: March 2009 Applications
Day 5 of Plastic in Hand...gotta tell you guys, it's nice to finally have it. Hang in there if you're waiting. When you finally get that card in the mail, you seem to forget about the 100+ day wait. Haven't done the "Wally Walk", but wanted to see if I could get a vote if this qualifies: F...

Re: Talked to the office of the Chairman of the Licensing and
My thinking may be wrong on this, but the Texas Attorney General is also responsible for "enforcement" of the state civil and criminal statutes. It seems to me that if enough individuals called, emailed and wrote the AG's office regarding the violations of timeliness and notification of th...

Re: March 2009 Applications
Calling your State Rep will help. My online status still shows "processing application". I asked my state representative's office to inquire for me and got word today that my license is currently being printed. 92 days from date that DPS received my application. :woohoo Now I just have to ...
