Boston Bomber suspect

I agree he should have a competent attorney.
I doubt he does not have the level of funds available to buy his own.
Not really sure where to look or even how much is deemed adequate funds to defend yourself from this crime.
So for arguments sake, lets say he is appointed ONE federally approved defense person from a pool of attorneys in the federal pool of mandated volunteers.

BUT WHY oh WHY doe she need four? And why does a fed judge seek out an attorney from across the country?
I am very very confused

Judy Clarke, a San Diego, Calif., attorney, has the “background, knowledge and experience” that will “enable her to provide adequate representation to the defendant,” US Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler said in a ruling today."
