Re: Ode to Kel-Tec

even though there were a few makers of pocket pistols around before George Kelgren founded his current company (Kel-Tec), I believe it was his introduction of the P-32 and P-11 onto the affordable market that proved to the majors that the public had a true interest in pocket guns. Just my opinion, but I would consider George Kelgren to be the "father" of the current pocket gun. He is also one of the most innovative designers in recent history. Just the fact that Ruger cloned his (uncoyrighted) P3AT to make their LCP, and previously the Skky Industries (now Sccy..due to a little lawsuit concerning a certain long time Vodka maker) cloned KT's P-11 kind of proves a point. KT pistols were never made to be "range guns", rather to be back-ups or CC guns to be "shot little, carried alot". KT was on the very cutting edge of firearms technology in putting centerfire pistol rounds in miniature polymer frames... there's a whole lot of science to be dealt with.

If KT hadn't come along when they did, and gotten many thousands of small, concealable handguns into the public domain, I would seriously doubt that we would have anywhere near the number of sub compact or micro compact handguns to choose from today.

just my opinions
