I personally don't care HOW it gets passed. They can tack it onto a bill for credit cards, road tariffs, exports, or the price of wheat------as long as it DOES GET PASSED!
For any of you who ever travel to Corpus Christi, take a ride down PArk Road 22 (South Padre Island Drive) toward the entrance to the National Seashore. As you approach it, you'll cross the Kleberg County line. NOw Kleberg County is actually about 50 miles from this point by road (due to a large piece of the gulf of Mexico intruding), therefore the Kleberg county sheriff rarely patrols it. (It's a 100 mile round trip for them.) And since it's outside of CC, the CC police and the Nueces county sheriff have no jurisdiction. therefore, the fringes of the PArk have become a giant transient camp, and perhaps the drug capital of the area. I would never take a woman or child through this area without packing something lethal under my car seat. Wouldn't even drive through there alone without it. (Those of you who have seen it will know what I mean.)
My point: if you DON'T carry your own personal protection down here, and on into the Park, you're not too bright. So however this law allows it to be so, I'm for it. And since there's no grizzlies or moose--just hopheads--almost any caliber will do.
